April's Love

April's Love
.
It was the best of months, the worst of  months
married young, so good it's hard to describe
tender and sweet, closely entwined, young love

Young marriages may not last, seasons change
bitterness and sorrow, brokenhearted
storms throw down their nests, the flowers die

Again I am posting this little poem, in honor of the birds in the picture nesting.
A house guest dropped one bird on the table, the little bird broke.  Too.many small pieces to glue back together, they were a wedding present 48 years ago.
Posting with the Writer's Pantry #84, Magaly has charge this week, https://poetsandstorytellersunited.blogspot.com/2021/08/writers-pantry-84-lets-read-up-storm.html

Today I am  linked to the Real Toads, Words Count with Momma Zen
 (My word count is forty-six)
"In his masterpiece The Waste Land, poet T.S. Eliot
describes April as the cruelest month," Mom Zee asked,
"Give me the best and worst of April, then render a verdict . . . in 66 words or less."

Now We Remember

Storing up trouble

When the lights go out

Tell the truth, shame the Devil

Writer's Pantry Poem for Today

Take Note

Are you a note taker?

A note believer I am

First day lectures I say

To my class, "Take Good Notes

Your Tests will be over

the stuff you need to know

If it's in your text book

and what I say in class

but not my corny jokes

All I say you jot down

After class rearrange

Make a study outline

Fill in holes, stuff you missed

and things from your book that

were not covered in class

Now make a shortened one

Study what you don't know

Review in your spare time

Every student I've had

Who made an "A" took notes"

A Flirty and Winky Poem

[photo furnished by Fireblossom

Winkem and Blinkem;
   winking girls

Winkem was a little flirt and
Blinkem was a flirt wannabe
Winkem learned to wink from her dad
Blinkem never could so she blinked

Then that day on the porch Voilà!!
Out of nowhere came that wonder
Wondrous talent, she was winking
Winking at the dogs kittens too

Soon walked near a cute young fellow
Winking she tried but only blinked
Wise sister told "Afraid you can't
That pleasure will come in your teens"

A Poem for Writer's Pantry

      Josh Hild, Downtown, Unsplash

Life Goes On;
  for some it does

Life goes on
that's been my lecture for years
That I was told when
my first doggy died
For some it did but not for Von
Our latest dog, Adi died several year ago
I missed them dearly and for me it has not gone on
And my tears wouldn't bring them back

Life goes on
That was what I was told
But for my dear grandfather it did not
He was my pal
My comforter when things got rough at home
And my tears wouldn't bring him back

Life goes on
Minnie was my pony all mottled and white
But to me she was shiny and bright
Though she was old
for me she learned to jump
Autumns were hot but
the thee miles to school were but naught
and in the cold snowy blowing winds
she didn't seem to mind
For her my tears wouldn't
bring her back

Life goes on
That's what I was told when
my wife and mother of my four kids
left for a new life
She'll be back, those were her mother's words
But she was not
For her my tears have stopped
We both have had new lives
for the better

Life goes on
Getting old means old friends and new pass away
They do, all around
We miss them but they are
gone to stay
For them our tears don't
bring them back

Life goes on
That's what we are told when
People in our hood die at the hands of the law
They didn't mean to kill, . . . . . .
most, even when police lives are on the line
But . . . . . .
When arrested and she dies in jail hanged herself
for changing lanes without signaling
Or . . . . . . .
when their doors are broken down
faulty warrant based on suspicion and lies innocent couple,
our neighbors shot and killed
(a warrant factory based on lies and hate hundreds were finally set free)
Or . . . . . .
when a local
moved to Minnesota and was killed by choking,
knee on neck, even when
he cried out loud, "I can't breath!!!"
Those were neighbors we have missed
our tears won't bring them back

BTW, Big Floyd's farewell service will be held next week here in Houston, Texas, where he grew up.

our tears won't bring him back

 - I started this Saturday night but hadn't wanted to post it.  But for myself it needs to be said.  Big Floyd will be missed.  He attended school in our neighborhood, played pro football for the Cleveland team, moved to Minnesota for employment, and had played with a Hip Hop music group here in Houston.  I have a feeling that his funeral will be shown on BET-TV (DirecTV channels 329 and 329-1, Dish at 124).

A Country Girl Poem

This Naughty Girl

This naughty girl is not for naught
Her toys are words learned on the farm
Amidst the cows pigs and horses
She came to town did she ever

Smallish town farmers brought their eggs
Sold the eggs and showed their daughters
Saturday night their groceries bought
Kicked the tires while girls met their friends

Sitting on sidewalk benches she
Dropped her hankie gave boys her wink
Didn't dare go walking with one
When her dad's in town kicking tires

When she had a car of her own
She'd drive it to the town next down
Loaded with girls they'd cruise main street
Boys would call out she'd flash her lights

And when she comes to town they"ll know
Lucy farm girl was on the prowl
A simple girl who likes the boys
I'll Cruise Main Street not naughty girl

 - Note: On weekend nights in my days the young would cruise Main Street, Lincoln Nebraska, boys and girls in separate cars, or mixed.  They'd flirt and sometimes mix.  Or do a little street racing, my car was hopped up and fast.  The drive-ins were popular too.  Oh yes, there was a girl, Lucy, almost every weekend night in a late model Ford, full of girls.

Poem, Endless Love

Formerly posted April 28, 2020
for NaPoWriMo Day 28 -

Without Numbers;
Too many to count

My love for you begins at South
It climbs mountains to wink at stars
And goes back down into the dale

Zillions and zillions times over
Each step each blink of eye
My love for you filling my mind

I know you feel the same for me
Numberless as the beach buggers
Smacking lips wishing for fresh fish

Consumes us both my love for you
Your love for me we do exchange
Till we reach North which never comes

Numberless steps before it ends
Love made from all the sweet flowers
Numberless in themselves we coo

Coo and cuddle will never end
I love you you love me dizzy
Up and down those high hills higher

Higher and higher our love grows
Numberless buggers North as well
Blessed in High Heaven is our love

NaplPoWriMo 2020 Day 19 -- Poem, A Morning at the Pier

At the Pier

Here I am sitting
Here I sit dangling my legs
On this pier my thoughts are born
My dreams are wished, feet get washed

My wishes disclosed
COVID 19, go away
For Rainbow's end Pot of Gold
Food on table and food line

And my feet get washed
The fishes swim over them
I don't need soap--wouldn't work
Big fish I'll grab with my net

And then?
Wave goodbye to fish and  ships
Dog glad to have me come home
Make us some  food fish and chips

A Poem for Sunday Writers

Him

He's shaved she squealed
Him I like that way
He showered and shaved

How could you tell that
His beard's always messed
He smells like a ...(duck)

Have his mess to clean
He smells real good though

It also works in tribute of our Houstons Kenny Rigers but the selfie is of me in the mirror dodging my beard's shavings.  His beard was much thicker than mine, darker too.

A Pi Poem for Pi Day (3.14) along with my Writer's Pantry Poem

Pi R Good
(A Pi Day Senryu)

I like lemon Pi
Yesterday was Strawberry
Tomorrow Di-et

 _ _ _ _

"I didn't say that"

Read, "Let us taste each other’s words"
Was the Poet's admonition **
Way the world communicates
We say and hear we show and watch

Lest we get it wrong plenty find
Wrong transmission or reception
Purposefully said fake news, lie
A lie, nice way is said 'fake news'

'Heard it wrong' denies ignorance
'Didn't say that,' an outright lie
From whose lips these false statements come?
Whose ears incite to lie some more

Not yours nor mine, it could not be
And politicians don't take blame
Candied words can seem delicious.

 - 2010  "Smiley Guy" photo was taken and first posted here,  https://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2010/09/smile-we-passed-on-street-started-with.html?m=1,  taken when we were at Gdansk, Poland, during our 2010 Baltic Sea cruise.  He was standing beside a street doorway to a small shop.  I have used him a lot on this blog going under the alias of "Flirty Guy" because I first used him in a 'flirting poem.'  See his Label below.

** Magaly's words.  She also said,  "(words can be rather nutritious, I’ve been told)", adapted to my bottom line.

I've almost always, perhaps always, written as poem or a ditty for Pie Day, March 14 (3.14) .  Things slipped up on me this year so this Senryū will have to do.

A Riot Poem for Weekly Scribnling

Anonymity, suggestibility;
and contagion
(Riot of 1952)

'Twas a charged day, restless students
Friday afternoon, pep rally
Students charged some more, someone said
"Mainstreet"

Up from the stadium they marched
11th Street full, walk to walk
Turned down "O" Street, now five blocks crowd
Forty thousand strong

Student riot they said, uncontrolled
But as riots go, really calm
No cars overturned, none were burned
Windows and garbage stood

Marching on, singing as they went
"On Nebraska, good old Nebraska U..."
Up 17th, to the dorm row,
Pace quickened

Boy's dorms were left, frat houses right
Further north, girl's residences
Doors locked windows shut, were no bar
Panty raid!

There the boys raided at will, sigh
Underwear first, then some trinkets
Fun by all, girls too, no one hurt
No one arrested

- I'm linked with Magaly Guerrero at Weekly Scribbling, https://poetsandstorytellersunited.blogspot.com/2020/03/weekly-scribblings-9-contagion.html?m=1

- Magaly"s suggestion was that we use "“Contagion”—social contagion, or metaphorical contagion, or biological contagion… the choice is yours."

From a google search:
"Social contagion is the spread of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors from person to person and among larger groups as affected by shared information and mimicry.Jul 15, 2014 ;"
and
"'Anonymity, suggestibility and contagion' tend to arouse emotions. In crowd situation inhibitions are forgotten, and people become 'charged' to act."

 - There are some exaggerations here.  I do not know how many students were out, it was sidewalk to sidewalk for several blocks.

A Write for the Pantry

Out of the Ordinary

An unusual sight for Edinburgh folk
Streets wet and slippery icey and snowy
Cold wet winds blowing weather report "snow"
Bonnets jackets scarfs and gloves rubber boots

Houston, Texas, carry your gun holstered
Waking up this morning they found surprise
Before their eyes dead man there on the floor
Wondered who he was and why he was shot

Killing activists in old Mexico
Environmental activists stand tall
Pay the price bucking government's interests
Near fifty murdered in past two years *

Water leak in Houston Thursday evening
About half of Houston lost their water
Thirty-five years old was this water link
Schools and business closed just for one day

* Note: (excerpts from the current 'Searra Club Magazine' news publication citing the murders of two environmental activists already this year)

"... reports highlight the collusion between business and government agencies in carrying out the violence against environmentalists and ensuring impunity for the perpetrators."

"Mexico has become incredibly dangerous for environmental defenders -- according to various reports, close to 50 environmental activists were murdered in the past 2 years."

A Pantry offering Poem

    May thee Rest

Lucy in the sea with diamonds
She couldn't take them up with her
Opted to be buried at sea

There the diamonds lay beside her
Peace offering to those before her
Sharing with the sharks consumed her

Now diamonds are for the taking
Shiny bubbles before the sun

Girl on a scooter

Girl on a scooter
where do you go
Couldn't be cuter
I love you sooo

With room for double
when I'm with you
Me for your buddy
envies my brood

Flying through the night
brown hair trailing
I'm hanging on tight
close those railings

Riding your scooter
queen of the streets
Girl on a scooter
so glad you're mine

A Ditty Poem for Wednesday

What goes up must come  down

The skeletons in your closet
They are to be worried about
Those things will come out in the wash

What to do what to do--there's hope
Why were they in the wash machine
Who was watching this bloody act

Did you heed Tide cleans things better
There's hope those dry bones get whiter

A Poem for Sunday

It's That Time;
  a polar bear love song

Wake up Momma
it's that time once again
Spring Moon has risse
baby making time

I've missed you so
your shaggy white bod
That tender nose
lovely in all ways

I dreamt of you
alone in your cave
That lovely snore
I'd pass now and then

You're awake and
the ice is flowing
Hop on a hunk
first lets kiss once more

Travel to where
salmon are spawning
Sitting so close
Make love all the way
