One Single Impression: Tree
.
Family
The leaves on my family tree might tell
of the struggles endured and fought, some lost and
others conquered with diligence along the way
The time they were given was spent writing their song
honing and polishing it with their talents they've used
so wisely. We live loving their every beat and note
Some lived a ripe ancient age before they fell
while others, though given no choice of their own,
fell before the sun had risen twice
Tombstones amongst the living trees we visit
others were buried somewhere along the road
most some day will be risen to Heaven for us to enjoy
Our duty to family now is to make the little ones proud
one day when they're older, of how we lived and what
we shared. A model for them to mold their lives we be
We will care for each other, old for young, young for old,
rich for the poor and poor for the rich in the ways we can
It's them that we love, their every way because they're kin
Some trees have no leaves for their stories to tell
They've ask it be that way, barren we don't know
why for sure. Suppositions of this and that we have
Others though not barren have no leaves to tell
Like cremation to save the dirt for the farmers
very practical they are. Ecological saints
Where did they grow? What are their fortunes?
Amongst the billionaires galore they plant themselves
Though generous still to share when a need blows in
We find them now near their roots or far away in
distant lands. Proud of country yet economics will win
and off they go where the jobs may be found.
Or will they be too poor to sink their roots? Jesus has said
"the poor will be with us always." Did he mean these kin
who cling with all their might to where they light?
For sure we will be a helping hand and find a dollar given
their way, a little dirt to shovel on their starving roots. Pretty
and pleasant they, in part making up for their loss of stability
We find them blossoming brilliantly while they may,
creating songs and poems that can be enjoyed
long after leaves and fruit no more they will bear
We will sing those songs and enjoy their fruits
they have so generously shared. Though each
has his kinks we love them all while we can
Some grew straight while others crooked. Be they
beautiful and handsome or opposite still they are our kin
We are proud to know and enjoy them while they're here
When we winter our reputations and song will linger on
with those living others. We'll fall where and when we end.
My leafy name you can gently kick around when I'm gone.
