Toast with cheese and hot chocolate -- a Poem for Friday Writings #136

Magaly has invited us to write poetry or prose inspired by Grace Lee Boggs’s (read URL link below) quote, “We can begin by doing small things…”  Lots of possibilities here?

Pictures copyright Jimmiehov 2024

   Twelve little pieces

Twelve little pieces
that there should be but,
Eleven this time

They have a purpose?
slathered with creme cheese
Yummy by itself

But there's more to come
Jar, strawberry jam
Hot chocolate to drink

Fork does the dabbing
dabbing and dipping
smearing white with red

Yummier now still
Small things together
Dainty breakfast comes

Yes, “We can begin
by doing small things…”
. .

Sad - a Poem for Friday Writings and dVerse Quadrille

"Adi is retiring from Pet Partners"
.
Adi and I were best buddies
[posted 2016, link]

  Deepest Sleep

Awoke this morning

Feeling very sad

My dog died last night

Vet came to pronounce

There is no help for her

She must be put to sleep

My face on her neck

Slowly she went to sleep

Oh that I could join her darkness

For the Birds? -- a Poem for Friday Writing and for dVerse Poetics

Notice Mrs. Jim's painter shoe covers.  The ground
here is like a duck's kennel floor, covered.

Parenting is shared

 Realization comes

I lived on a balloon
Sailing and flitting
Didn't matter to where

I sailed through the marshes
Range Rover's delight
Penguins visit well worth

On sailing to China
I walked the Great Wall
Didn't stop great masses

.Day Three found us at the Kremlin for
a nice tour. This is the Kremlin Wall.

Or the Kremlin's Great wall
Glide past with great care
Their prisons work you hard

And so life goes right on
We are but peons
I could go on some more

Realization hit
me like a ton of bricks *

You care not one Iota

A Date Perhaps? -- a Poem for Friday Writings and for dVerse Quadrille

                    [Courtesy "freepic.com]

  A Haven Not

Your place or mine

was question asked

no way ever

I'd make it yours

Yours'd be a trap

unwary falls

I am aware

of what's behind

Behind your door

jump out and scare

bejeebers out

never your place

Not safe for me

nor anyone

Rabbit and the Fowls - - a Poem for Friday Writings and a Piece of Prosery for dVerse

 Missing friends

Little rabbit was

 getting lonesome

He'd sit by the fence

 missing his buddies

Something told the wild geese

 It was time to fly.”

Then they all left

  alone again

Didn't last him long

 ducks coming in

Quickly making friends

 Rabbit's alone no more

A Hope -- a Poem for Friday Writings

"Cupid's Arrow" Artwork by Jimmiehov 2021,
Copyright 2021, URL - I've carried this in my Bible for
ages but 2021 is the first time I've found it published

    Sweethearts

Have you ever been asked
what's your favorite word
My house you'd have to
ask, the little lady knows
Does he use now and then
or is it regular

Little lady is the
apple of my soft heart
She can do no harm
to this old hardboiled egg
So the lady responds
for me, knows my innards

I'm hoping she will say
it's "Sweetheart" with a smile

 Dense Blazing Star, et al

"Liatris spicata"
"dense blazing star"
"prairie feather"
"gayfeather" or
"button snakewort"

What is in a name
No matter what's said
I'd recognize you
by your blazing heads

You're "a herbaceous perennial flowering plant in the family Asteraceae. It is native to eastern North America"

Talyler Swift's Word - - a Write for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 29

    Cardigan; the old chum

You picked me up and threw me on
Like chum you are you warm me up
I don't know what or where I'd do
Helpless, sad were it not for you

When I'm sad then you cheer me up
When I hurt crying or bleeding
Then you sooth me like mother did
Other friends depart you'll still remain

Come night throw you back neath the bed
Like my shadow that can't be seen

kids and cats talk - a Write for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 27

Louis Wain, The Naughty Puss (1898)

  High School Cats and Kids;
what and where do they learn

juicy farts, high school kids delight
talking of them can fill the air
bane of mothers who wash their pants
"accident" when explain to moms
moms take it in mother's duty

clear the air precious high school talk
sex and 'lgbtq' hushed
not supposed to know of these things
seems high school is meant for learning
most time these are learned from 'big' kids

moms and dad will know these go on
learning, kids will pass stuff down

Questions -- a Poem for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 25

Art: Bree & Dreamweaver Coat by Lisa Graham

  Happiness and White Lies

Bumped into a thought provoker today
What makes you happy, bunch of queries
Answers may tell us, what is it really

I wasn't worried very much at all
I'm a happy guy, questionnaire can find
Proust Questionnaire shows my desires

One question got my attention, liars,
"What do I think about telling white lies?"
I've always believed in them, they're okay

Okay if it's minor and doesn't hurt
Probably like Santa, Easter Bunny,
and help young kids enjoy their holidays

What if your date, could be a steady gal
She's a minor but tells you adult age
Very serious, then you find her age

Run, run quickly!  Tell her mom? Have a choice?
That is more than a white lie, pure trouble
She looked older, you fell for it, but now?

Hurtful to break but strictly illegal
Prison can beckon, truth you should have known
Could it be different if she's expecting

That happens quite often, marriage might quell
Got to let the chips fall, hope for the best
Lawyer might help; minor fell for your car

A Short Ode - a Write for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 24

Ode to an Injured Wild Rabbit

"Wee, sleekit, cow’rin, tim’rous beastie, O, what a panic’s in thy breastie!"

You've just read in British the first sentence of a John Burns very famous poem It is "Ode to a Mouse".  Poor mouse had been
partially plowed under a farmer's plow blade

I will continue this write with his first sentence in mind

Oh small animal, I am so sorry, this trap wasn't meant for you. Rather for rats running wild. My children made a good find and had brought you to our house. Now we'll get you fixed up, clean, bandage, and splint that bloody leg.

If you have babies at home I hope and pray that Daddy Bunny will care for them and feed them well.

The people who set that trap in our hay field should be ashamed and feel sorry for you.  They are poachers breaking the law.

I'm hoping with you that the vet will fix you maybe so that you can soon go home, walking again.

Cat stuff - NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 22

        [Our Daughter's Russian Blue cat]

   Cat Fight

Hey diddle doddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
They had a big fight,
The cat won out,
The fiddle had a black eye

The cow quit giving milk,
The moon cried big tears,
The little dog laughed no more,
The dish leaked to the press,
And the silver spoon sold tickets
