Sunday Muse -- Flowering(??)

           (Photograph by Anita Sedberry

     A Beautiful Companion;
        an elegy poem

Little Rose I'm so sorry you were picked
Plucked you
Bright and beautiful
From where you were
Princess of the beauties

You haven't lost your beauty
Yet
But your beaming color won't last here
I gave you all the water I could spare

Your roots and leaves
They had to stay
Stay where you were planted
Here there's no soil
Nor room for that

Dirt we have plenty
It's not the kind
Kind you can use
It's mixed with grime
Dead bugs rotting away
Grime and flakes of skin
Skin from us here within

Please the think the positive
Think of the joy every morning
Here in the dark and dank
Mornings while you last

But it won't be long
They'll throw you out
Out with the rubbish
Junky and poo
Not like where your
Kin will be
With the other mulch to be

So let's toast
Toast to the joy of the past
The sunshine and showers
Childrens' oos and awes
Old ladies so wise

And the friendly gardener
The one and only who
Was to coddle and care
Care for you
Trimmed your nails
And polished your petals
Fed you well
Watered too

All that you have lost
But your beauty still shines
The only pretty here
Not for long
Make the best of what we've not

That's my plight as well
I'll ask my keeper
If we can go together
Away from this cell**
To the paupers' grave
Out on the hill

Friday Writings - Spine Poem plus

Rock, paper, tiger
Silver Anniversary
Humpty Dumpty was pushed
(my spine poem/senryu)

(I was overhearing their talk:)

I think it's just terrible
Dastardly deed--purposely
So cute poor fat little man
(student with white shirt)

Every way accessible
Sat on his wall reaching all
Long office hours he kept
(student with shoes that don't match)

Clever and very wise too
Physics 102 project
Broken eggs back together
(with white shirt)

Let us go back to the lab
Make Dr. Dumpty famous
(student with black shirt)

Then we'll teach him--Balancing
(in unison)

( Now I've heard it all!!)

 - I am linked with Magaly at Friday Writings #10,
 - Magaly invited us to "create poetry or prose inspired by a conversation we’ve overheard."
 - I left my position as an Aerospace Engineer at NASA Houston in 1980 for a second career as a Business Professor at San Jacinto College, a large two-year community college in the East Houston area.
 - After every class I would move to the front of my desk, move the lectern out of the way, and sit on the desk as my students passed by.  Some would stop to discuss a point we covered in the lesson, maybe give a real-life example that fit, or make an office visit appointment, and so on.
 - Various times in my life I have felt folks were placing me in an older order.  My classes were no exception, starting after teaching maybe fifteen years, many of the female students began patting my legs as they passed.
 - I was well liked by the students even though I made them work hard for a good grade.  Fine with other faculty too.  But I was forced to retire due to health reasons (from which I've recovered).
 - My working life had phases, three years working in an Elgin watch factory, five years in the U.S. Army, 19 years with Aerospace, and 22 years at San Jacinto College.   I retired in 2001, Mrs. Jim was ahead of me, she retired in 1999.

Word List - Living (??) Well

Sleeping Cats

Kitten mine looks half asleep
really he's sound asleep but
He sleeps with one eye open

Kat learned this from the feral
and catches mice in his sleep
Sort of like his master is

With one eye open looking
both looking for food or prey
He's tough gypsie type alright

But gentle as a kitten
when I'm around always was
We are one of a kind, us

I kissed them both, feed them now
Carousing and prowl all night
After breakfast sleep all day

Life in the fast lane is good

YouTube found here, lyrics too.
At the end I found a collage of goodies on screen.
I chose "Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice," her bio
on video at 1hour 33 minutes, it was well worth it to me.

 - I'm linked with Shay for her word list, it's posted below from her Word Garden #9 below, at  http://fireblossom-wordgarden.blogspot.com/2022/01/word-garden-word-list-9-joan-colby.html?m=1

 - Granddaughter KP's new cat does not like being left alone.  We think he might be missing his former owner.  Named Dutch, he is an adopted four-year-old male Russian Blue.   He was a one-owner never taken out in the rain; pretty boy belonging to a little old lady, an LOL.

 - Shay introduced us to Joan Colby, and specifically from her collection Joyriding to Nightfall. Read about her writings at the link above.  Also, others have left a link there to their writings on this and the word list.  - "Colby writes about nature, animals, aging, and the angels and devils in everything around us.
 - What Shay wants us to do here is simple: use at least 3 of the 20 words on the list in a poem of any length or style. Then link up and visit others. The prompt stays "live" through Friday."

 - And now her list of words!
