NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 18 --

Mr. Air Conditioning Man

I don't fix 'em if they ain't broke he said

And he reached up to turn his headlight on

Peering into the guts of the machine

Wryly, he glumly said, "yours is a mess

Your doohickey by the small dingle bash

expired.   The larger one it is just fine

You're a Lucky Lass, may I call you that

I've got one of those right out in my truck

You can wait for me or follow me out

Quite heavy, you can help me carry it

And we can talk going there get to know

Get to know each other better, maybe . . .  "

If it's same with you I'll get another

Another quote might help me understand

But if not okay please leave anyway

Now please go, my husband is on his way

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 17 -- Moon Howling

Come Howl with Me

The Moon is full tonight

Watch it in the east as

it rises big and bright

Over the horizon

Just as twilight begins

Howling time begins when

Comes the hour of Midnight

The foxes and the wolves

Give us a sendoff clue

When it's just right for you

Auool, auool, auool, auool

My howling will never cease

Howling until wolves do stop

Followed by the foxes,

Coyotes and dogs everywhere

Do I grow fangs at midnight

On their necks women to bite

Soup for supper

Mines a fixer-upper

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 15 -- Grandpa and Me; a little bit

Uncles, Grandpa, and Grandma

. From left to right: My Dad, Uncle Lester, Uncle Howard, Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Chester in 1940s photo taken at Grandpa's farm. The car was Dad's blue 1938 Ford Tudor Deluxe.

When I was growing up

When I was growing up, who of the family was I like

Not my father for sure, mean to me and going his own way

Mom and my grandmothers were the best

perhaps I should have been like them

But without desire my grandfather it turned out to be

He chewed tobacco and dipped his snuff

Never smoked that I knew

He would take me for rides that my dad would

never do, except for one time that I remember

He talked to me like a kid, most remembered

to me was his approach to a stop sign one day

He wasn't a poet, but out of the blue one day

he recited "S T O P, stop take of panties

at a Stop Sign

That may have been what the kids in his day

were saying, but I never heard it again in my day

I will always remember his corny joke and sayings

In that I am just like he was

Grandpa cussed and swore, I did that for a time,

easy on the swearing as I cringe when I hear

taking the Lord's name in vane,

today's "O M G" irks me each time I hear.

Grandpa liked his beer, so did I way before I was 21

Grandpa drove crazy, drove his tractor up a tree

I like him, like to joke a little bit,

telling jokes and quotes that may not be funny

I always said that I was grandpa's favorite

Another cousin and I were the closest in many ways

And it took a calm and loving wife to slow me down

(Somewhat)

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 14 - They're Back

Our little friends

Our little friends are back

They announced their arrival

to their nest vacant since last fall

Under the eaves between

our front porch and the garage

Mama announced their presence

Clucking to me

like she'd laid an egg

while I was in the drive

getting the Sunday paper

Our sixth year living here

Each year they've come

To raise a new family

Another generation

And in the fall they'll leave

Again to winter in

Mexico where its warmer

Little love birds have returned

I'd like to think that these doves are

the the ones here last year

Their long flight across the Gulf

They flew by instinct

Across the waters to us

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 13 - News, News (fake News)

 Farmer Kid's Chronicle

Cooking and eating with Dr. Jim

 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Feature:  Three Minute Roasting Ears

Today's meal will be easy, just have the ingredients in your shopping cart next time at the grocery store.

Now I will tell you how to make that corn, three minutes!!

.Three minute roasting ears

. Take one ear of corn and break in half or thirds. Place them standing upright on paper towel in the microwave oven Put microwave on High for three minutes.  No more boiling water!!

That's it. Butter and salt and pepper while still hot.
Add a minute or two for each additional ear.

This works really good for kids, singles and old folks. .

.
The menu for the day:

Roast beef on whole wheat bread with sliced onions and mustard, roasted corn on the cob, low fat cottage cheese, and a mixed drink (orange/pineapple mixed with Diet Sprite, half and half).

Dr. Jim 'cooked' this 760 calorie lunch in ten minutes. Mrs. Jim had the same.

Ingredients:

Corn on the cob -- Number ears you wish to eat (in the produce dept.)

Roast Beef, sliced -- 4 ounces per sandwich (in the deli dept. or near the hot dogs)

Low fat cottage cheese -- 8 ounce carton (in the dairy dept.)

Drink -- Something cold, suit yourself (ice tea, pop, juice, a mixture like mine)

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 12 - A Late Night Rendezvous

Aircabs* get you there fast

My ride was uneventful

until the giant flying goose

 caught with us.  He

grabbed our Aircab in his

beak and tucked it beneath

 his tail.

He flew us fast and in a

furious manner.  Not much

 traffic on that night.  His

way was paved by a bribe,

the guy flying the GooseNeck

would not be disturbed.

When we arrived the truck

 was already there, "candy"

and other cargo for us and

 the Goose driver.

We took the candy, smokes,

and something really good for

me.  It was a 1908 copy of  the

"New American Encyclopedia of

Social and Commercial Information."

The book will open doors

into a new world where

I never could go.

It has an article,

"The Violin Self-Taught",

which will give me a new

skill and a new career.

Then I will seek out

the big cities with

symphony orchestras at which

I  can use my talents.

An enjoyable life then will

be affordable for me.

And best of all my candy

and smokes will be handy there.

Which means no more

nighttime stealthy rendezvous.

 - The top photo shows three of the toy truck, cars, and traveling devices that I keep in line to race on my dresser top.  The bottom photo is of a card for purchase at our older Walmart store.

 - I am linked to NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 12 for the writing prompt and for registration of my writing there,   https://www.napowrimo.net/day-twelve-9/

 - * Notes:

   1)  The prompt was to find an interesting word in the Historical Dictionary of Science Fiction from which I used the word, "Aircab", first used in 1934.  That is about the vintage of my yellow and black Toy Taxi.

   2)  Also I should use one word from , but my cell phone, an older Galaxy 8 did not have enough memory to hold the needed upload.  So, since I have a 1908 copy of  the "New  American Encyclopedia of Social and Commercial Information" I used the article, "The Violin Self-Taughtstarting on page 808.

   3)  Mrs. Jim has a spare violin, if the arthritis in my hands can let me work it I may give the article a try.  I have taken two semesters of college Class Piano so some things may come back to me.

NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 11 - Sunday Muse - Flying

    Fly Fly

When I get big I'm going to fly
I'll buy myself an airplane to fly
Then fly myself way up in the sky

I'll fly myself so far far away
I'll leave this place and never come back
Don't cry for me I'll not cry for you
