NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 14 - They're Back
Our little friends
Our little friends are back
They announced their arrival
to their nest vacant since last fall
Under the eaves between
our front porch and the garage
Mama announced their presence
Clucking to me
like she'd laid an egg
while I was in the drive
getting the Sunday paper
Our sixth year living here
Each year they've come
To raise a new family
Another generation
And in the fall they'll leave
Again to winter in
Mexico where its warmer
Little love birds have returned
I'd like to think that these doves are
the the ones here last year
Their long flight across the Gulf
They flew by instinct
Across the waters to us

It’s such a pleasure to red about your love birds, Jim, and I’m glad they’ve come back safely and that they announced their arrival. I wonder if that’s a record, six years of the same birds nesting in your porch, and I’d be curious to know where they end up in Mexico.
These might be offspring of the original. The nest was there when we moved in in 2015, the prior owners bought it new in 2012. I have read where the doves like to live, central Mexico and some varieties on down into Central America.
We are watching the news of Prince Philip's life reviewed and of the activity after his death intently. On our TV Networks and also on our BBC News channels.
We almost feel like Brits having spent so much time in London and around while visited our daughter and family living there five years. She works for BP, British Petroleum.
..
Yes, to you and Mrs. Jim!
We've had eastern king birds in the same nest at the cottage for almost 50 years...so many generations. Great poem Jim.
Just lovely! If she clucked at you, maybe they are the same ones?
PS Can't help wondering if they say to each other, 'Oh look, it's still the same people in the house!'
Yes, the world can be a really beautiful place particularly with the birds. Pity about the humans though!
I'd like to think they're the same family too. What a sweet piece.
It's neat when they keep coming back...especially the ones who nest near their human friends, in order to feed their babies on the insects that would otherwise annoy us.
I love it when birds return to the same nest year after year. Obviously, Jim, you do too. Enjoy the new crop of hatchlings when they come!
I like this. :)
