Little Rabit -- Poem for Friday Writings

(Originally posted Tuesday, April 23, 2019,
for NaPoWriMo, Day 23 find it here)

Cousin to the Easter Bunny?
.
I'm a little Sock Toy Rabbit
No dark rabbit hole for my home
Sleep in a large green padded box
Share it with a whole bunch of toys

Infused with kindness, smile ingrained
From a grey sock, red and white toed
Kind little lady imparted
love portion with each needled stitch

Not seeking greatness or riches
Hanging out with my toddler friend
I love him he drags me around
By my ear, arm, or leg he pulls

Some day I'll be outgrown, cast off
Choose me next and you I will love

My Homes, some of them - a Poem for Friday Writings

Old house the home where I was born
     Two bedrooms, kitchen, living room
Porch where I slept, 'neath fallen tree
       Privileges, run of house--my home
          Mom, Dad, sister, me--family

  Homes and feelings

Home to me is where
I'm living now
And just about where
I've lived before
Count my dropout times
listing them
won't  fit on one page

At age seventeen
I lost its love
Second home would be
Mom's Aunt xxx's home
Lincoln, Nebraska,

College kid then
Alone, isolated
three rooms
three tenants
no homey privileges

Three semesters passed
dropped out and moved
Three years rented rooms

Those three years
They passed fairly fast
I moved around a lot

One was a
basement appartement
Landlady lived alone
Free of rent, I had to
keep coal for the furnace
keep the sidewalk clear
clear of leaves and snow

That was a nice home
Furnished, it felt nice and cozy
Bachelor left alone
no privileges still

But then one day
the landlady wanted me
to clear the sidewalk leaves
I said I would come Monday
Had a busy weekend
(dating, working on the car,
our race car 1934 Ford coupe
Sunday was race the car day)

She said now, I said
"I quit.  This is a job to me
and I can quit when I want
I moved Monday night
My home once again lost
and then found anew

This was like old home
I worked with the man
and knew the son
I had TV again in rented place
Ate with them some times
Felt like a second son

Ended less than a year
I became married
and
was drafted into the Army
two weeks apart

Start another write
another day
New type of life
Bachelor days are over,
for a long while

[A toy 1934 Ford Coupe]

The Laugh -- a Poem for Friday Writings

[click on the pictures for larger view]

  A Laughing Matter?

Little girl growing big
Taller than her grandma
Maturing, ladylike
At our house yesterday

Called, we at doctor place
"Mimi, like to spend day
Pick me up from my place?"
So pick her up we did

Small talk while driving home
At her request, one stop
McDonald's, she went in
Back out with sack and glass

We took care of some needs
Sack on coffee table
She's on the floor beside
Playing game on her phone

We'd eaten on the way
Ice cream now for dessert
Our guest, milk chocolate
Be her favorite, ever

Game time, old hide and seek?
Kid stuff, not for freshman
High school now, play new game
"My creation," she beamed

Three people.  Six stuffed toys
One is "it". Two go out
"It" hides the six stuffed toys
"It" then calls in the two

Leaves while two find the toys
Find before "It" comes back
If not, must sneak around
First one caught is new "It"

Toys brought in next game begins
Once Mimi couldn't find
Red Tomato she'd hid
Worse we couldn't either

Game was over, all laughed
Laughed and laughed O so hard
Mimi, how'd you forget?
We needed a hard laugh

Toy selection was made by our Teen: (top to bottom)
Two snowmen, on the left when she was four,
the right for the Christmas tree, occasion not remembered
Two tomatoes belonged to my mother before marriage also
Two baby lions, on the left a gift to Mrs. from me
the right "just came mainly unnoticed"

The Gift -- a Write for dVerse Poetics

Two of my toys, Tractor was Dad's untill he died,
Pig was to me from our Vet when I was a small boy

        My Gift, A Pig

'Twas vaccination on the farm that day
Vaccinate the pigs against diseases
Those diseases that pigs might get

In my farm boy time it was cholera
for sure that and some others I know not
Dad did a lot--vaccinate no

Doctor Scott did that for us while we helped
Dad or I would hold the pig to the ground
Doctor Scott injected the meds

I'd known Doctor Scott most of my five years
He was the "The Vet" I have known all my life
That day he had me a present

It was heavy, heavier than a dish
about four inches long and never broke
Brown relaxing on its knees

We were poor I didn't have many toys
Honored place on my shelf is well deserved
Had you pig now for my long years

Doctor Scott, I thank you this one more time
Now you doctor for angels' pets

Visitor Growth - a write for Friday Writings

[Most any photo will be shown as a Larger view if you click on the picture.
It might become larger still if you click on it again.]

    The Visitor Came

The day the visitor came
A fuzzy little guy, brown
He looked hungry, we fed him
All vegetables, our surprise
A hungry guy sort of thin

We talked a bit just chit chat
He then proceeded to tell
Tell of his life's hardships;
"Born in the wild, jungle home
But now on city streets"

We asked him had he a place
He said "no kind folk, I don't"
Now family conference
If you're nice you can stay here
He has been here ever since

"One problem, I have four buds
They've street people too, we five
Dawny Duck, Frosty Snowman,
Bunny Rabbit, Teddy Bear
Nice children, sleep in one bed

All five of us need a home"
I've another, monkey caged
I fear he seems to like that
Swinging in his cage all day
Passersby come, they applaud"

Visitor Tig, was the best
Nice kid and so were the rest
Even so was the monkey
But he's not want to escape
Well fed, much loved, all for free
     _ _ _

Note:  I've rewritten this poem today, January 21, 2023.  If you read it yesterday it had Tig and his friends, along with the monkey, being taken from the wilds before being adopted into the home of the writer of the poem.  I have saved it but now it is much nicer, almost cute, than before.

Monkey friend, November 12, 2007

This little fellow greeted us every morning at our hotel while we were staying in HuehueTenango, Guatemala for two weeks.  At the video end we were sharing hands.

Making New - an Acrostic Poem for Friday Writings

HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!

R
eclaim, Rekindle, and Rebirth

Relax yourself--claim again
empty heads will not count
clip from your paper
lots of paper dolls you can make
almost a dozen from only one page
in paper doll contests you might win
make them slim, make them pretty,

Remember childhood days
empty bellies do not count
kindergarten days rekindled
invest in rounded point scissor cutters
no one cares if you act senile today
don't you know its New Year's Day
let them laugh the laughs on them
early childhood memories coming forth,

another plight you'll buy
nothing counts from them
dare acting senile today

Reserve the time wisely
emptied hearts try to count
better filled with childhood dreams paper dolls
ignore the hoots they don't know
right from left hasn't registered
tonight new birth you will have
hoot and holler and scream like the kid you be

Curious -- The Singing Fellow

   Staying Curious No More

Little man, why do you sing like you do?
Is it because I wind you up before
You shake your head, no, no, that isn't it

Then tell me please, why do you croon like that
Is there real blood running to your voice box?
Course not you crazy fool, that isn't it

As I sit and listen, your happy tune
Perhaps it's solar makes you go, sunshine
Guess again, I think you may never know

Then I give up, won't you tell me please
You turned the switch, three AA cells, that's it

Dolls and Toys -- NaPoWriM 2022 Day Fifteen

    Be My Paper Doll

Boys have toys
That's well known
And when they grow older
some they still own
I don't mean their Porsches
and electronics

Ones they might keep for play
like down on the floor or
up on a table top
While others are keepsakes
of which they never play

So now I'll tell of mine
Some I still have some are
out in a grove
Like my steel wheelbarrow wheel,
or rusting behind a barn
Others were only in my mind
though I never owned
That would be the electric train
I found every Christmas time
It stays in the store or Sears catalog
or on my cousin's shelf

Teddy bears and trucks and cars
Most every marble I've ever
had resting in an old crank churn
The tin monkey that knows
his multiplication table through twelve

Six Match Box cars on my dresser
lined up ready to race and
my gyroscope in its box
A wooden box with my wood box and
My Shirley Temple scrape book
that Mom and I filled
An old cast iron taxi my sister
bought sort of like the one
I had when small
There's my Dick Tracy camera
I'd ordered from Chicago

And a few others I haven't told

There's one I played with
but never owned
And NEVER WILL
That's the paper dolls
Ones like I played with
while visiting my cousins

I would cut out clothes for the dolls to wear
When we ran out then we'd find some more in the Sears and Wards catalogs
Doing all that was fun

But now I've no desire for them
No desire to even play
let alone own
There is an exception
But still, I would be FAKING IT
That's if a GRANDAUGHTER
wanted me to play
Paper Dolls

Oh yes, I forgot to tell of,
my trusty Red Ryder BB Gun,
it still shoots
And my Snow Sled
hanging on a garage wall,
we have no snow in our
Gulf Coast part of Texas

Weekly Scribblings - What if's today - Do it again?

This will be my last "Weekly Scribblings" post as it's sponsors are merging it with another posting on another day.  I may rejoin the enjoyment of reading and writing poems there when I catch up on some other tasks of which I'm behind.  I still intend to post here "The Sunday Muse" and perhaps a few others midweeks.

    If I were, . . .

If I were little kid again
I'd have my monkey near
Made from blue, white, and red stockings
His red nose from the heel
I'd be hugging him close to my chest
Or he'd be hugging me
I'd drag him around--we hand in hand
Close to me always be

And I were a bit bigger kid
I'd be playing cousins
Cousin things playing on Grandma's floor
Cars and trucks we would drive
He would always have more toys than I
Taxi cabs he'd have two
So Grandpa'd make him give me one
Mine to keep take it home

If I were a big kid again
A bicycle alone
Little sister would have her own
The girls bike could be hers
Sharing bicycles is the pits
Thing boys needn't do

Were I a teenage lad again
Smoking I wouldn't do
Cigarettes would stay in their place
Uncle's glove compartment
It's there they should have stayed
Gave my sister one, she smoked two
Made her sick, be no more

Were I young again, drop out days
My Ford would still be fast
Back then my car was a "sleeper"
It looked stock but watch out
The fifty-two Ford would out run
any Chevy around
Bored and stroked, ported and relieved,
street cam, dust you at lights

If I were younger mid forties
I'd have my Beagle dog
Be a therapy pair again
She would still be the best
Visit hospitals, senior homes,
help children learn to read

 - - -

You wonder where your toys have gone
Sleeping away some place
In a drawer or a cardboard box
High on a closet shelf

My toy monkey is lost, I looked
This morning writer's break
The taxi died, not of old age
Left outside crushed by car

Sister had kept the bicycle
Hung on a garage peg
Cigarettes and pipes, chew and dip,
I too have quit, forties

I sometimes wonder, "Ford still runs?"
Saw her once on the street
Still wanting to race at the light
Jealous, others I've had

Adi died, my sweet Beagle dog
Carry her picture now

That's the end of this yarn right now
More to come, perhaps

 - - -

       This is another toy,
       "Educated Monkey"
He helped me learn my math
He used his hands and his feet

       One foot on Your Number
       Other was directed
       as the Multiplier
       Hands would hold the Product

 - I smoked from age 17 until our younger daughter was born.  I still like to drive fast cars, I've been up to 150 steady on the German Autobahn, here momentarily to 140 testing a car, and still have a pretty fast 1998 Mustang GT Convertible.  The educated monkey is one my son bought me on eBay when he thought that I had lost my original hand-me-down now well over 100 years old.  The Taxi Cab did get run over and was crushed after I had left it out all night being my dad's tractor.

Weekly Scribblings -- The Man

Unusual

I am an unusual man
I was an unusual boy

Unusual mark I carry
Wearing it high on my thigh
Or on my forehead Matters not
But wear it I must Dreaded mark
Passed on to me and family
I've passed it to kids Boys and girls

I am an unusual man
Man who has unusual dreams

I dream of leprechauns and oranges
My wife dreams of monkeys and bananas
The children dream of gorillas growling
and red lollipops made with lemon rhyme
Gorillas monkeys leprechauns three
Not uncommon They wear the dreaded mark

I am an unusual man
With unusual family

We drink peppermint Gator* Aide
and eat steak and raw potatoes
Chocolates at day tea bags at night
We sleep on cocklebur mattress
Silk sheets' torn edges cover us
Not uncommon These dreaded marks

I am an unusual man
Unusual habits and friends

Smile at strangers and scowl at friends
Jolly at morning Fight at night
We shower cold with Oxen Dolls
I chew my cud while milking cows
and spit it out all the next day
That dreaded mark goes not away

I am an unusual man
Uncanny that I cannot change

 * Gator, slang for alligator

Weekly Scribblings prose poem -- Loving Three

He "be an uncrushed flower"

A regular guy and Mother likes him.  He meets her order, she'll have kids like him.  A breeder, she calls him "Joe"

We "burst into constellations of dance"

Way too young for most, a boy toy so nice fulfilled her every whim.  She taught him every loving move he makes. Now he's starting to make his own. Another keeper, stays with her.  She calls him "Jimmy Boy, the Butler here"

"Love can be a monster, or not"

Her third choice truly loves her, experienced in all ways.  Taught her much.   Ravishing her over and over.  A monster with teeth of Jell-O and bubble gum mix, perfect for the tasty nibbles he takes.  She gurgles with delight and calls him "Igor".  Imagine to your wildest extent, Igor would be there

 _ _ _

Liked them all

Fulfilling her needs and desires

She's keeping all three
