Happy Me - a Poem for dVerse Poetics

    Happy Fellow

I am happy happy
Most of the time that way
Have a smile on my face
even more than that

What makes me so happy
Say because I was born
I didn't have to be
Who said "we don't like kids"

My father wanted me
I milked cows and did chores
And so did my mother
A happy companion

Grandpa named me Smiley
cause I smiled all the time
Happy to be with him
I was Grandma's pet too

When I grew up, married
had a happy marriage
Even when we divorced
free, happy then, three years

Met a new wife for me
Right away I liked her
and she liked me also
She's happy pioneer

Now that I'm old and gray
I'm happy even if
Even if one cripples
Even if one lives no more

Fifty-one together
Makes me happy hearing

Simple Life - a Poem for Friday Writings

   Glimmers

Microwaves and Keurig
Dishwashers and wash
machines and the likes
Glimmers in my life

Quick and easy is
the way of my life

Quick and easy fits
From hot chocolate,
square eggs to fit bread,
stuffed peppers a snap

Little things, glimmers,
make my life simple

Note:
  • "Glimmers are small moments that spark joy or peace, which can help cue our nervous system to feel safe or calm.
  • Experts say this mindset shift can make a positive impact on our mental health."

April -- NaPoWriMo 2023 Day 30 -- Mad Money -- and a Poem for Sunday Muse

     Wasted time and money

    Mama had warned her
    "Spend your mad money
    very cautiously"

    She didn't heed her
    Now she wished she would
    Save it for the time

    Time you really need
    Mad because your date
    Didn't play fairly

    You imagine when
    Times I've warned come true
    Naughty naughty he

    Sorry this came true
    Walk home now you must

Seeers are believers -- a Ditty for Friday Writings

  Comes the Stomper Outers

Mean
Stomper Outers' discovery
They came, the stomper outers
Killjoyed the little kids
Ruiners to them
Dismay the girls
Cry their fun
Bursted
Joy

"Does she love me?" -- a Write for the Sunday Muse

Shivers;
all about love

She loves him she loves him not
Sitting on threshold of love
Somberly he thinks of that

Seems three petals yet to go
Selection by kiddie love
Some never outgrow this stage

Some wish upon a bright star

Super Bowl is worthy of watching
If it's not then catnap is catching
It was fun tonight
My team won their fight
Nickles and dollars bets I'm fetching

Change and Renewal

[picture of my gas meter, Copyright Jimmiehov]

Mary, Mary, how does your gas meter flow
With little wheels spinning and numbers changing
Comes a little man who reconditions them
Good as new they will be with improvements made

Fix yours today before the market goes out
It will send your numbers to a satellite
You can get your bill via the Internet
Meter readers gone like lift operators

 - There Rosemary has asked us to write about change and renewal.  She chose this topic after her apartment/flat needed a complete renewal due to a severe invasion of Mould.
 - 88 syllables were written today for my ditty.  The associate pastor at our church worked for and with his father reconditioning gas meters for customers and utility companies when theirs would go on the fritz.  He has a meter in his office with glass sides and top for the purpose of showing customers how the meter worked.   Clever.   That job was before he went into the ministry.

A Ditty Poem for Wednesday

What goes up must come  down

The skeletons in your closet
They are to be worried about
Those things will come out in the wash

What to do what to do--there's hope
Why were they in the wash machine
Who was watching this bloody act

Did you heed Tide cleans things better
There's hope those dry bones get whiter

Aspirations

More than I can handle;
bogged down

What do I want, can you tell me
So many others have tried but
They all say for me to "want more"

Well I'll tell you what I've got here
It's more than I can handle now
It keeps me busy day and night

So why would you think I'd want more
Colloquialism, quaint but true
Bitten off more than I can chew

Please quiet while I mend my fence

A Cold Day in ... a Ditty Poem for Tuesday Challenge

..... . . . ..[click on picture a time or two for larger viewing size]

A cold day in Summer

When the summer heat is about to get you down
When the thermometer says feel-like temperature
is one hundred and five, that's the time you should think
Think about a cold day, cold day you liked a lot

That proverbial day, day when you froze walking
It was a cold day then the wind blew up your clothes
Pants and skirts bellowed out full of air oh so cold
I saved a bottle of cold air just for today

This'll be our cold day, cold day in the summer

a somewhat silly ditty ~~ "Small giants and large dwarfs"

Namba Parks in Osaka
Bored Panda

Small giants and large
dwarfs share the landscape

Architects delight,
weaving climbers and
tiny windows share
the scene fighting for

the top, upside down,
downside up, silly
twins bewilder you
and me, cousins sad

to think of what may
become way of life
for normal people
too, way too sick to

argue, quarrel.
Doesn't matter

Photo inspiration, Namba Parks in Osaka by Bored Panda , from Kerry's Flash 55 PLUS! Challenge.

Kerry, at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads (at http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com/2016/10/flash-55-plus.html ) introduced us to the Bored Panda website.  There she "came across the post, 15+ of the most Amazing Examples of Japanese Architecture. ... (she) was transfixed by the ergonomic and/or economic use of space" (just right for my giants and large dwarfs).

Oh yes, exactly 55 words, per Kerry's request.
Note:  I may not be politically correct.  But then, ... (Doesn't matter -- I liked the picture)

Lollipop Pole; and it's Fairy ~~ a Ditty Poem for 'Until Later'

Lollipop Pole;
and it's Fairy

Totem Pole's far cousin is lurking near
Fueled by her fairy, waiting to lure you
Boys and girls beware, her danger is near
She's kind, will leave candy and coin for you

But her pole contains the magic power
Pick its fruit, good to the taste, sweet morsels
Bad as Adam's apple, this demon girl
She's bidding for queen, Queen of Boys and Girls

Lollipops are her weapons.  Innocent?
No, not this fairy nor her fruit come free
Their price is tooth decay, the dentist's joy
Tooth Fairy is on our dentists' payrolls

Beware of her lure, the Lollipop Pole

Notes:
1. Searching the Totem Pole animal list (link) did not yield the Tooth Fairy.  But it did include the imaginary animal, the Unicorn
Unicorn
Purity, innocence, dreamer, personal power, gentle, spiritual vision, other realms, faith, healing.
2. Why is the Tooth Fairy not on this list? A creation of dentists, they may also have invented these delightful fairy creatures knowing that they would bring in more $$$$ than their blood sucking leeches could ever (my belief).

A 'How Many' ditty for Tuesday Platform

How Many?

How many sailors
does it take to change a light bulb

How many preachers
does it take to change one's habits

How many Twinkles
does it take to make Sailor sick

How many wait staff
does it take to carry six coffee mugs

How many opticians
does it take to change a light bulb
One
One or two
Two or one
Three or two

Patience
                            Geniuses unite!

Note:
I've had this Earworm bugging me all week. I thought I might use Mark Twain's help, by adopting the tactic that his character, the conductor, used in his short story, "Punch, brothers, punch." (Link -- read Twain's story here, please click). The conductor could not help himself from singing this ditty until he finally passed it on to one of his passengers.
The little song went like this:
Conductor, when you receive a fare,
Punch in the presence of the passenjare!
A blue trip slip for an eight-cent fare,
A buff trip slip for a six-cent fare,
A pink trip slip for a three-cent fare,
Punch in the presence of the passenjare!
CHORUS
Punch, brothers! punch with care!
Punch in the presence of the passenjare!

.

Mount Franklin's Peak;
fun mountain climb memories

I'm having memories again this day
Memories of El Paso and it's hill
Mount Franklin beckoned me oft before
I would climb the mountain, rocks and all
Then the cable car I'd ride back down

I'll climb no more though return I might
Will be in the little orange cage
Up and down, this time I'll ride both ways,
Titanium knee, creaking joints, they beg
Please do leave the climb for younger folk
.
