A Prose Piece for Yesr's End ~~ in Tribute to Susan

Year End Tasks;
   they just come along

Creators of the masters
close their year just as our
writers here accomplish that
unavoidable event.

Even me, an amateur,
"comme une tâche amateur." Or
as I used to could show off that
I did not put my pants on leg at
time. I would jump into
them with both feet performing
the same task simultaneously.

So what to do that must be

done? It is told that "paying
taxes and having babies are
unavoidable tasks."  Better do the
first, let those, you know what,
do the other.

And you know what? I'll write

a little ditty and put it with the
others' poems. And I could
stand some "resolutions"
this year. Like clean out my
office/studio, wash the car, and
kiss my spouse more often.

She's a dandy. Or there be

something else could be done,
nice but not required of us.

How will your year end?

A Music Inspired Poem for Marian ~~ a Tribute to her

Sweet Love;
  save me

"Your sweet love is gonna save me" *
I been runnin' wild with the boys
Trouble has been my middle name
Jails don't fix me, out I'm the same

Your sweet love is gonna save me
Been runnin' wild, whiskey and gin
That's no help, I get wilder still
Jails don't fix me, out I'm the same

Your sweet love is gonna save me
Tame me good, I need your lovin'
Let us try, one sweet kiss goes far
Jails don't fix me, out I'm the same

Your sweet love is gonna save me
Slow me down and please take me home
Spend some time I'll make us coffee
Jails don't fix me, but your love can

Your sweet love can save me tonight
One kiss from you can make me tame
Please get to know me, I'm alright
We'll go slow, your sweet love save me

"Take It Easy"
Eagles Lyrics, 1972
https://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/eagles/takeiteasy-1972.html

Well, I'm a-running down the road
Tryin' to loosen my load
I've got seven women on my mind
Four that wanna own me
Two that wanna stone me
One says she's a friend of mine

Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels drive you crazy
Lighten up while you still can
Don't even try to understand
Just find a place to make your stand
And take it easy

Well, I'm a-standing on a corner
In Winslow, Arizona
Such a fine sight to see
It's a girl, my Lord
In a flat-bed Ford
Slowin' down to take a look at me

Come on, baby
Don't say "Maybe"
I gotta know
If your sweet love
Is gonna save me
We may lose and we may win
Though we will never be here again
So open up, I'm climbin' in
So take it easy

Well, I'm running down the road
Trying to loosen my load
Got a world of trouble on my mind
Lookin' for a lover
Who won't blow my cover
She's so hard to find

Take it easy, take it easy
Don't let the sound of your own wheels make you crazy
Come on, baby
Don't say "Maybe"
I gotta know
If your sweet love
Is gonna save me

Oh we got it easy
We oughta take it easy

Adios

Thank you, pantry prompter,
for writing this reminder, may we
never forget the bravery of Rosa
Parks. Love your illustration,
she makes me feel young and happy.

TODAY I START MY SABATICAL

TO END JANUARY 12, 2020
(love the ring of those numerals,
my hope is to live that year long).

Also, I may sneak

out a dity or few when
my Warden isn't looking.

Bye Bye, wish me a BON VOYAGE,

 _ _ _

 - Like most blog writers I appreciate comments and critiques from my readers.
 - Very likely though my warden, a cousin to my muse, will not allow me to return your comments.  Even so I am planning to read a lot of yours.

A List Poem

Ordeal

She would groan
at the slightest touch
At the verge
of a mere esthesis
she would plunge
into hysterics

You would think

she must be
in the back seat
of the car with
her beau
But no, it was
only an
onyx colored caterpillar
with stick-like feet
crossing her toe

Her doctor dug deep

into his satchel bag
Voila!!
a vial of risperidone
After her first dosage
a shot in the arm
she went wild
   a feeling
she had never known

"Doctor  doctor", she cried

in a loud Eagle-tone, *
"I  think we're gonna crash."  Which she promptly did
taking the doctor along

The next morning

she was groaning still
the warden was pulling
her from the heap
and the Doctor was
still hanging on

Bad medicine

Bad Doctor

* Note:  The woman's cry in the Eagle's classic rock song, "Life in the Fast Lane."  Those Lyrics herehttps://genius.com/Eagles-life-in-the-fast-lane-lyrics

Poem ~~ Water Saving

Today is World Water Monitoring Day !!

  water care

Water water it's our friend
sustainer our make up
Came from God there is no more

For our use we drink we wash
We travel we recreate
From its force power and light

Watch, care, apportion we must
Blessed resource there's no more

Poem for a shelter experience

There is this hole;
  buried alive

It's Goodbye, time for me to go
Didn't expect it, be this way
All I have is gone, not this hole
Things have piled on me, can't get out

I really dont want, getting out
Family dead to me, took my dog
There's no flowers left, garden's brown
Things are bad, all I had is gone

Can't write any more, you won't read
My pencil is dull, water's scarce
Junk, junk, all is junk, overhead
This is my Goodbye, 'less you dig

But in my head, I will compose
Poems and letters, they'll abide

p.s. you can wait, see if I ...

A Poem for Wild Friday

In my eyes he matches the gods

In my eyes he matches the gods, that man who
sits there facing you—any man whatever—
listening from close by to the sweetness of your
voice as you talk, the

sweetness of your laughter: yes, that—I swear it—
sets the heart to shaking inside my breast, since
once I look at you for a moment, I can't
speak any longer,

but my tongue breaks down, and then all at once a
subtle fire races inside my skin, my
eyes can't see a thing and a whirring whistle
thrums at my hearing,

cold sweat covers me and a trembling takes
a hold of me all over: I'm greener than the
grass is and appear to myself to be little
short of dying.

But all must be endured, since even a poor
sweet thing like me can no longer be near though
without submitting and succumbing the temptation
But just a touch

only one touch when he's not looking on that
bulging bicep so there I've crossed the line
will he know  Know the way my heart is fluttering
Does he know

like the humming bird wings and there's a
smile creeping across his brow going down
to his masculine accepting lips  Which are
quivering too out of control

waiting for me make a show of my timid desire
which I will honor with my regrets and distress
I uncross my spineless legs and run, run run
and not look back

not one glance—his end

A short poem for "Get Listed"

avant-garde

the couple tried to be the latest
avant-garde in every way they could

assumptions were made clean it would be
affordable audacious combined

absence of malice their sole virtue
risqué aberration to their shame

a million sold clamor never stilled

A Poem for one word - 'Halved'

Sharecropper

The old share cropper
  worked so very hard
With family to feed
  he must be frugal

Cost of seed was shared
  Harvest of grain matched
each two kernels grown
  his landlord got one

Bales of hay that way
  all the harvest halved
Even the garden
  veggies some for each

Where they differed, how
  the proceeds were used
Landlord sold for cash
  Farmer fed to stock

Livestock to sell save
  some for family food
Roosters Sunday meal
  Hens' eggs eat and sell

Save money not used
  To buy his own farm

Poem for a Thursday Challenge (everybody gonna shine)

My Music Love

My music love is not the kind
of today.  Rather much older
Rolling Stones and Beatles I find
Oldies radio played bolder

Youth to thirty-five jive to beat
Video goes with--they have need
Eagles, Janis Joplin, my treat
Our marriage, a "Proud Mary" theme
 _ _ _

"(We)* thumbed that diesel down
Me and Bobby McGee..."
into New Orleans town
We'll shine you wait and see

*(note) Janis and me

Mini Challenge Portraiture Poem

Those Hippie Days

It's been a long time ago now
Way back early seventies

Looking the part, a hippie queen
Pert, smart and smiles pretty too

Knew her before we met, her type
Rode a bike she traveled light

At the foot of the stairs to wait
Parked her bike and yellow dog

Barefoot, cutoff jeans, straggly hair
Looked the part this Hippie queen

I don't remember who sat first
Empty seat between, back row

Differential Equations class
Back there she read History

I learned my Calculus so so
Smart girl she got A's in both

We chummed now and then pleasant girl
Our end at semester's end

She loves me, she loves me not, she lo ...

Apart; love ingredient
here lingering

Apart in a world of togetherness
You're apart I'm apart Why couldn't we
Yes why couldn't we make togetherness
We both know it's lonesome out there apart

Count the ways and let us vote our choice
First and foremost is marriage Number One
Ingredients are love trust devotion
True love is the tricky one It just comes

Second in my book comes a shacking up
No strings attached just watch our P's and Q's
Helps to be true and devoted by both
And when there's love then why not a marriage

Two's wishy washy, there's a Thee
We could play 'house' you're the wife me husband
Later it might be mommy and daddy
There could be a junior come any time

When the 'house' becomes a home vote again
Not apart never been I vote marriage

Gardner's Delight -- A Poem for the Month of May

Add Roses Red

Roses Red, you have finally come
Pruned somewhat late that's all our fault
Inconvenience we're sorry
Sorry but not disappointed

Your blossoms so bright fair and Red
Welcome bait for any lass' hair
Bring my love a dozen plus two
She'll reward your valiant display

Summer's near, May's departing fast
Rose food desert early for you
And water each day keep you moist
Garden would seem bare with you gone

You pretty girls so dear to us
Proper kiss but for prickly stems

When lovers and nice things are gone

The Dystopian Tarot, The Lovers
Kerry O'Connor

https://kerryoconnorsother.blogspot.com/

Back to square one;
a Dystopian poem

Technology's losing it today
Planes are falling from the sky
It's big dishes are on the ground
Removing you and me comes next

What we'll have left is innocent child
Eyes wide open and wondering of things
Things that were, we had it so good
Now everything has come to Glum

Country School Days

At the Corner

Today he was first there at the corner
Ready for school, he would wait for the girls
Soon they would be coming, most often they'd
be at the corner first waiting for him.

The three of them would exchange their greetings
and tell just a little bit of their life
Bits and pieces in place they would grow up
More than just buddy buddy they were chums

Nothing romantic, those thoughts never told
Teens a bit naïve to grownup's fun ways
didn't keep them from school kids' pillow talk
A little here and there monkey business

Puzzled by biological urges
All staying low, a mystery to them
Exploration away from the classroom
None of that this morning, school business waits

They were in different grades, still bosom friends
Older girl tenth grade, little sister eighth
Him the middle at nine, shared the class room
Teacher's a dunce they thought, she wore no bra

That's country school back then, the upper grades
One room for them, seven, eight, nine, and ten
Three kids in top three grades, two in seventh
Barn held six horses, these three and three more

Though no romance their crushes filled the air
His for two girls who rode with him plus one
The other two were laying bids for him
But he loved his horse more than those girls

After class the horses pulled at the reins
Fine oats were waiting, they tried to hurry
Teens were in no haste, made their horses plod
Plan for the morrow, part at the corner

One Challenge "Poem" and One "Pi Day" poem

(another) Three Bears Tale

Mama Bear, Papa Bear,
and Baby Bear
they went out for a walk

Baby came back
She sneaked a cookie and
bottle of gin

Do bears really drink and
smoke cigarettes
Age old question remains

Mama returned
Papa stopped at the store
for some cigars

Baby was drunk
They hadn't planned on this
Proof "stuff happens"

Gormless Corky;
neighborhood kid

There was a young lad who was slow of wit
His name was Corky, a sweet young fellow

The other children were his living dread
They chided the poor boy mercilessly
Called him names, made ugly faces and signs

The teachers loved him, gave special effort
That made it worse for Corky with other kids
They called him teacher's pet right to his face

Another name they learned, it was "gormless"
Cruel to mouth, meant stupid, dull, or clumsy

Corky's alright now, terminal illness
Took its toll and Angels watch over him
