One single impression: Spectacle

The Spectacle

I could not see
the signs in time
road signs that said
do this go there

Eye spectacle
need for the right
cost me hundreds
to pay the tab

A pitch dark night
I did not see
that sharp tree stem
my eye did poke

Eye bandage gone
need specs no more
the signs so clear
again I see

SkyWatch Friday (my seventh) -- Evening time around the church

[large picture] [super sized]

At times like this I wish I had a better camera. My little pocket Sony is fine for most, but not enough for really good night-time photos. We can just barely see the moon trying to shine through in the upper right quadrant.

a basket case they

I resolve to change

bicker and fight you

I'm so glad not me

Award Day -- Oh Happy Day!

HAPPY FEET award

Hi Guys:

I think most of you know that I post pictures and perhaps a short (most of the time) narrative to go along with. Therefore my readers consist mostly those who share similar theme pictures.

I respect these readers and especially have a warm feeling and happy feet (they were smiling the last time I checked) for those encouragers who make it worth while posting.

What I may think of as a mundane post may be lifted in esteem as seen through my eyes just because of those thoughtful comments. THANK YOU ALL, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Mary, the teacher got this award going, she gave it to a long list of her regulars for which I am honored to be with those others.

Since she passed the award on, I feel that I should also. Therefore it will go to the top commenters for the last three months on my JIM'S LITTLE PHOTO BLOG.
.
To the following I hereby send the "You Give Me Happy Feet" award
.
Comment Sender Count:
Some, including myself, will receive this award for the second time. I don't think anyone has returned it to Mary before. After you get it please pass it on as you see fit.

Read all about its origin and how it is run at Mary's Blog,
here at The Work of the Poet.

SkyWatch Friday (my sixth) -- Pretty clouds over Guatemala

Over Lake Atitlán (Lago de Atitlán)
.

We rented a boat and traversed Lake Atitlán. A small town on it's shores is where I found the 'dog sleeping on the roof' picture below.

We did have several stops, the views, the people, and the skies were wonderful. One was for lunch and souvenirs. I bought a nice hat, Mrs. Jim bought a wooden flute like instrument, each was "made in Guatemala."

This was our last day in Guatemala so there were about seven hours on the bus. That wasn't nearly as much fun as doing the lake in our boat.
.
On the road (dah) via Highway CA1, which is the PanAmerican Highway. It really isn't too great in places but the scenery is wonderful. We passed a lot of roadwork using temporary side roads as Guatemala is upgrading portions to four lane.
.
Huehuetenango, the street leading out of town to the west. This was not the PanAm Highway. We stayed a week in Huehuetenango helping at an orphanage. The kids were sooooo loving.

Adi's Greeting

Welcome home dear girl
You've been missing, gone all year
Welcome back, dear girl

Welcome too dear boy
You've not been here for a year
You've been gone too long

Oh how I missed you
Love you both, I do, I do
Cry out, wag my tail

I kiss you and cry
I climb up for your caress
Say you love me too!

SkyWatch Friday (my fifth) -- The Blahs!

.
At first glance, this sky pic looks like a clear blue sky without a cloud in the sky!

Wrong! The sky is all one big cloud, not an opening in sight.

This is a common sight in the early mornings around Houston. It isn't smog, it is just a low layer of clouds that soon will be burned off by the sun's heating rays.

The NOAA weather map picture of cloud formtions below shows a very large cloud over our part of Texas, circled. The Jim Bunch's home is to the top right (northeast) part of that big cloud. You might want to make it large sized to see the map better.
.

[larger sized]

Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun
and I say it's all right

Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...
Sun, sun, sun, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the sun, here comes the sun,
and I say it's all right
It's all right

I told you the sun was doing its work. We will wait a half hour or so and have another look.
.
Now only these clouds are to be seen. They are hovering over the Houston area to our south and may bring them a few showers. We will be low humidity and dry today [I'm writing this on Thursday, the 14th] with temperatures in the mid-nineties.

BTW, some mornings start out this way, with the sun shining and the sky not overcast at all.

One single impression: Stairways

[large picture]
[

Stairway Forbidden

Who you say, would dare?
Would dare put up that wall?
Just a simple stair,
access denied seems unfair.

A child small you say ,
no access seems alright.
And come whatever may,
little one, no way!

No mere child I cry!
This small wee one I love,
oh dear pet of my,
sweet
doggie safe nearby.

SkyWatch Friday (my fourth) -- Edouard, the little storm that barely could, before and during

.
Out our front door (Montgomery, Texas), facing the north. Generally we don't see pretty red sunrises in the north, they are in the east-north-east in the summertime, east-south-east in the winter.

What caused this was that the sun was already up at 5:37. However the sky was so dark in the east with
Tropical Storm Edouard that its red rays would only shine through the clouds way over here, and to the north of us!

You might call it The Day of Edouard. That storm pretty much fizzled before it even got here, inland about 80 miles from where it entered.
.

[large picture] [super sized]

.
And this picture of the rain is from our balcony. It started about 10:00 AM and lasted until almost dark. The picture here was taken at 1:32 PM, after two and half hours of steady rain it still hadn't pooled on the golf course.

We were soooooo dry here that with a light rain like this it all soaked in for quite a while.
Click here to see a Texas sized rain making puddles in our back yard golf course!

And no, we didn't lose electricity, and the wind barely blew.

Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- Adi can . . . . . . . . . . . Play wanna be traffic cop

[large picture] [super sized]

Adi is playing queen of the sidewalk and wanna be traffic cop here. She just knows this fellow coming is going too fast to stop. [I, the intelligent human being, know he doesn't intend to stop.]

I missed getting a picture of Adi closing her eys and putting her paws over her ears!

[large picture] [super sized]

Sure enough, this guy did run the stop sign! Right in broad daylight, he broke the law! Worse yet he could have run over some of us pedistrians on that golf cart path/sidewalk. Or cars coming out, it was a blind intersection for him.

.

I thought I'd tell you about the rules of RUBY TUESDAY.
They are real simple:

On Tuesdays you can post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that contains the color RED.

I will might post a NEW Ruby Tuesday each some Tuesdays.

Your photo can contain lots of RED

or a little bit of RED

AND (please) post your link here with MaryT

"Skywatch" (my third) -- Pussy cat, pussy cat, where have you been?

[large picture] [super size]

Of course, the Jim Bunch eats, wherever they may be, at home, in town, on the road, or like here, in the air.

.

This is Continental Airline's snack. If this is a snack, my definition of a meal may change. We had crackers with peppercorn Parmesan cheese and beef salami, a bag of tail mix (I pulled the peanuts out for Mrs. Jim), a bag of M&M candy, and a whole can of Diet Coke.

Then there was another Diet Coke (my fave soft drink) and two cups of coffee for after dinner time, and an ample supply of water for my meds.
.

I read my Blogstock '08 book, made by Ralph, from cover to cover while in-flight. Here I am reading Ralph's bio, it is most interesting, especially after meeting him and Mrs. Ralph.

Note also that I had my GPS on continuously when the all clear for electronic gadgets was announced. This picture was taken while we were over Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas.

I like to look at the sky views and the different clouds. I took a lot of pictures, these beauties were to be found over the Houston area. (Go here to see where we've been.)
