The Last Ride ~~ a Sad Day for Adi

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day

(That was September 10, 2018.  The link at the bottom here still is valid,  probably updated by the time you read this.)

Her Last Ride

It would be her last ride
One of many she'd been before

Going to her doctor
It wasn't her favorite ride

Getting old is not fun
Seizures were her worst, eating next

Wasn't her idea
Going that day not a fun ride

Being with her lover
That made it some better for her

No more fun days she'd have
For her, assisted suicide

But I've been thinking how
It's Doggie Heaven she is in

Adi Jane was my constant companion.  She and I were a registered Pet Therapy Team and made many, many visits together, adding pleasure to kids and shut-ins.

[below is a part of Jim's May 20, 2006 post]

yesterday on our walk
my Adi and I came
to this fork in the road

didn't take either path

went straight up the middle

through those trees — ending up here

One single impression: Autumn

[large picture] [super sized]

My Autumn

I'm in my autumn
Silly sounding you wonder
Autumn of my life

Remembers the past
Forgets what you said today
Autumn of my life

Playing this and that
Doesn't do his little chores
Autumn of my life

Sleeps from nine to nine
Waking to eat, read and blog
Autumn of my life

Ruby (Red) Tuesday -- Adi can . . . . . . . . . . . Play wanna be traffic cop

[large picture] [super sized]

Adi is playing queen of the sidewalk and wanna be traffic cop here. She just knows this fellow coming is going too fast to stop. [I, the intelligent human being, know he doesn't intend to stop.]

I missed getting a picture of Adi closing her eys and putting her paws over her ears!

[large picture] [super sized]

Sure enough, this guy did run the stop sign! Right in broad daylight, he broke the law! Worse yet he could have run over some of us pedistrians on that golf cart path/sidewalk. Or cars coming out, it was a blind intersection for him.

.

I thought I'd tell you about the rules of RUBY TUESDAY.
They are real simple:

On Tuesdays you can post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that contains the color RED.

I will might post a NEW Ruby Tuesday each some Tuesdays.

Your photo can contain lots of RED

or a little bit of RED

AND (please) post your link here with MaryT

Goldenrod, the Nebraska state flower lies dead (killed) in Texas

Killed by Jim and Adi!

[large picture] [super sized]
.
Unwanted, killed, and dead by pulling. Jim pulled it out of his flower bed last week.
.

[large picture] [super sized]
.
Goldenrod flowers really grow big in Texas! Everything does! Eat your hearts out Nebraskans. This is one from last summer before it went to seed.
.Too big for their britches, these were last year's gone to seed a little.

Goldenrods grow by spread of seed. They also grow runners under ground and baby plants pop up all over the place.

Mrs. Jim got me one plant for my birthday years ago. They were out of hand for a couple of years later, now we almost have them eradicated. They are what we call wild flowers in Texas, actually to most they are just weeds.
Here is my partner in crime. Adi wanted the ruler laid down to measure it. You can see it is two yards long, six feet. They won't grow that tall in Nebraska, ever.

No more halo collar for Adi

[large picture] [super size]

Adi and I went to her vet, Dr. Brian Hablinski (link) of Willis, Texas, yesterday to get her stitches removed. Her favorite place here in the waiting room is on the scales. They are dog size. I'm not sure if they go high enough to weigh me.

[large picture] [super size]

Now for a nice night's sleep without the halo collar. I moved it out of her way right after this picture was taken.

Adi can. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Have a nice walk, then it's back to work for her

[click here if the YouTube video doesn't play]

Our walk was long and interesting. We went about two miles this morning, but had four six stops. Another stop was for a glass of water from a golf course water cooler, last was just across the street from our house.

Adi just had to have this little roll.

Our first stop was here, we talked with Dean for several minutes. There is a turtle here waiting for us to go on. Several turtles live in the puddle.

Our second stop was up the sidewalk/golf cart path a little ways. Diane was on her way to play golf, but she stopped to talk with Adi.

Diane also has a therapy dog and will share time this year with Adi and I visiting at a local assisted living center.

Our third stop was a surprise. The last time I had seen this fellow he had two Corvettes and the family car. This Harley replaced his older Corvette. It now has about 800 miles on it.

See the black post in the background. That holds the hoist up, on the hoist is his late model Corvette. Before he did not have room for his three cars in the two car garage.

I think I need one of those hoists and a Harley in exchange for a car.

Our last stop was when we ran across our friend, Ginger. Ginger was out scrubbing her newly surfaced driveway. It had a tire track on it.

"All play and no work make Adi and Jim dull guys."

When I spray for weeds I generally find a fire ant bed or two. Today was no exception. Adi helps me find both weeds and fire ants. She gets really excited NOT helping with this chore.

PERKS OF BEING OVER 70 -- 01

1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you.

2. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first.

3. No one expects you to run--anywhere.

4. People call at 9 pm and ask, Did I wake you????

5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac.

Adi Can . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Think cool now that summer is here!

.
Ain't she cute! We got down to 22°F that February night over here, so we dripped the outside faucets.

Look closely for the icicles. [I 'borrowed' this idea from Rachel (link). It might help us stay cool. She had some snow, we only had icicles here.]

First, mark you calendar!
September24, The Bachelor returns.
ABC TV, 8:30 p.m. CDT.
.
Brad Womack is a Texan, born in Atlanta, who moved to Livingston, Texas, when he was twelve.
.
He went to college a year, then worked in the oilfields for several years.
.
He and his two brothers (both married) presently own four local bars Austin, Texas.
.
If we can't get a Texas girl marrying one of those bachelors, then let's go all the way and have the bachelor himself a Texan.
