a Poem for Sunday Muse -- This Misguided and Misbehaving Lamb

click HERE for his website.

Mama, there's a lamb on our table
He's standing there, I can't make him leave
Be careful my son, it's a lion
A lion standing, dressed like a sheep

He's done us dirty, has fooled a lot
especially children, gullible ones
In turn he has failed, his trusted ones
The children said "go", but leave he won't

We can't make him leave, the owner will
Courts and militia, will come to aid

a Poem for Sunday Muse -- I Don't Wish This on You

The Poor Loser

Better to butt one's head against the wall
than having a tizzy 'bout a bad call
After the tizzy you'll be a "Loser"
and carry that name of defeat for life

Butting one's head will leave a big headache
but that is why aspirin and Tylenol
every day are sold.  Having your hissy
often leads to the hoosegow or much worse

Either way your friends will be laughing and
having a jolly time at your expense
You'll never live down your mistake or your
telling name, "Loser, Loser--did it wrong"

So why don't you take it like a big "boy"
and cry up your sleeve when you are alone

Water and Stuff ~~ a Poem for Weekly Scribblings # 38

Clouds, Stuff, and Us

Here we sit
Under Joe Btsplk's clouds *
Spilling rain
As it goes round and round
On a leash
It's mother tightly holds
Hurricane
Storm Beta is her name

Some will flood
We think it not be us
Abandoned
Cars by the roadside sit
Sixty-nine
The year was bad for us
Thirty-three
Inch water in our house

"All just stuff"
That's what the wet are told
Not quite true
Memory jogs ruined
Time it takes
"Just stuff" to get regained
Joe Btsplk *
Please move your clouds along

Reminders**
We will miss them ever

-"for our ... Weekly Scribblings, [Rommy] would like us to write poetry or prose inspired by the thought of “things meant only as a temporary or hidden support.”"
  - Notes:
   * Joe Btsplk was an unlucky man in the Lil' Abner comic strip who constantly bore a raining cloud over his head.  {Google images here)
** When our house flooded with Tropical Storm Claudette in 1979 our most treasured ruined stuff was the most of our photographs from over the years.   We lost more, all of our furniture, three cars, and a motorcycle.  The house but not the furniture were insured.
Mrs. Jim, Adi Beagle Dog, and our daughter, age five, and I left by a high window in one of the bedrooms.   Also we have moved from that house and it flooded twice more for new owners.  They had been advised.  It might be flooded again today, 9-22-2020.

The Spirit Cannot be Killed

"In order to rise from its own ashes, a Phoenix first must burn."
Octavia Butler

The Phoenix; how many times

How many times must this bird be burned
Kill her cannot be she'll rise again
Stronger and stronger each time she burns
From those ashes of her spirit comes

Stronger than always does she arise
Burn baby burn was the cry last time
We will rise  stronger each time we burn
In our hearts on the streets we must burn

And from those ashes we come again
'Tis true each time new freedoms are won

Tuesday Platform ~~ a poem, "I missed ... "

I missed the party

I missed the party this week
Purple tinge of lavender
'Twas invitation for me
What was I doing, don't know

I missed the fun place this week
They are coming home today
Costumes galore, I was masked
But I didn't come, poor me

I missed the party for sure
'Twas like college days of old
Took the streets, we called them ours
This time, with signs, my voice, quiet

I missed the party this week
Fun filled, messages to tell
We are the majority
Our voices need to be heard

I missed the ... (more still in draft)

This is in relation to and with A BIG THANK YOU, LADIES!!! for their valiant March last Saturday, after our U.S. Presidential Election.  They marched literally all over the world, in large cities and small towns.  Perhaps your friends did, some of mine marched.

Dear Daddy ~~ a Postcard Poem project

Dear Daddy, wish you were here!
. We are at the Coney Island Beach
today. I hope you would have been
proud of me last week in Ohio.
I was with 99 other women at the
Republican National Convention  . . . . . . . . . . The Rev Greer Thompkins
 . There was a demonstration for . . . . . . . . . . 611 Spoonbill Road
women, what women stand for, . . . . . . . . . . . Snodville Lakeview, IA
to show we aren't the bimbos that
Trump calls us. We were naked,
Daddy, 100 of us at the convention.
. You will read about it, Huffington.
Google it Daddy, there you'll find that our "photography project was a peaceful protest against the hateful, anti-woman rhetoric present in the Republican Party."
. Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, Daddy, I Love You.

Today I'm linked with Kerry O'Conner at the Imaginary Garden with Real Toads, "Kerry Says ~ Let's Send a Postcard.  http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com/2016/07/kerry-says-lets-send-postcard.html

Kerry has found several vintage postcards which are to give us ideas for writing.  I chose one from her find of "collection of vintage postcards from 1900 - 1910, which showcases "Women's Beauty" on Bored Panda Web site shown on Kerry's link above.  The writing on my 'postcard' is based on an actual demonstration of 100 naked women to help in the protest and the photography project.  Google it!

Game of Death -- Thursday Toad Challenge

Game of Death

Three girls in the room of one, intently
gazzing at the screen, pondering one man
Cared less about his physique. Just his head.
Head he had, but with no face. Make him smile.

How could he smile?  They'd done it once, for them
Did a silly routine, playing his game
The three of them made him smile, face revealed
Game of Death, had to stab just sixteen times

Today they'd make him smile again, this face-
less man.  How to do it, we'll play his game
Bring him up, get his game on the iPad
Here he comes now, I swear I saw him sneer

Bring three butcher knives and three red blindfolds
Rember our computer Game of Death
It works like that, one must die then I'll smile
I'll meet you after, now go to the woods

The girls remembered a lesson in school
A fun lesson about superstition
B.F. Skinner's "Pigeon Superstition"
One success, birds followed like religion

No matter, it worked on their monitor
Why not now with iPad out in the woods?
Blindfolded now, all with knives.  Spin the wheel
"Iva's out!" cried other two, "drop your knife."

Blindfolds off, sixteen stabs next.  Iva fell
Thin Man with no face, surely now he smiles
Superstition or no, we pleased our man
Poor Iva, she'll smile too, Heaven today

Notes:
1.  Iva (not her real name) did not die, she lived through the ordeal  The other two girls, age 12 at the time are now 13 being tried as adults.  This actually happened although not exactly as I have portrayed.
2.  See Izzie's post at Pigeon Superstition to read about B.F. Skinners theory of superstition.  He also thought that pigeons, smarter than the those of the first experiment, could guide a WWII missile to its target.  Woe to us if they erred.

Our friend? Winter came

Nature's Price;
Winter in Life

Hermit he became
Lived on Ramen Noodle Soup
Alone in the pond
What went wrong with our fellow?
Some say aging takes its toll

Snapped at his old friends
Wife and kids abused, put down
Now in bitter cold
All are gone, him they have left
Bad alligator's remorse

The same may go for poetry? (whatever, I enjoy painting with the words!)
