Senior Citizen Concerns -- A fun little Whirligig poem

The old mayor

It has been rumored, our wise old mayor,
he is beyond all hope of repair
Unless his steps cease their naughty paths

He must close the road to the brothels
Never, ever go that way again

People have not forgotten his sins
Nor will they begin forgiving him

His health in question, sans protection
At his age passion messes his mind

So enter the clinic with hat in hand
No other senior will be seen there

This detour and adventure** must end

- This poem is linked to Sunday's Whirligig: A Dozen Words for Writers (# 35)

 - There you can see others who have written.
 - My dozen words found at the Wirligig are from the poem, "Mayor Harold Washington" by Gwendolyn Brooks are: mayor, beyond, steps, close, never, forgotten, begin, health, age, enter, senior, adventure.
I used them all, in the order presented at the site.

I'm also linked with Marian at The Tuesday Platform, saying,
Please link up a poem of your choice, new or old or whatever you like, and take some time during the week to engage with others who have shared their poems. Hurrah! We look forward to reading and sharing."

Waiting for the train -- A Saturday Challenge poem

Waiting, for the North Train

Waiting here, by the street leading to town
Watching pretty people passing by
Time is passing too, wonder where it goes
Missing the North Train again? O my

Waiting till it comes, feeling not alone
Savoring young lass, her morning walk
Guessing thirteen, crass world events she knows
Practicing English on me, we talk

Asking me where Abercorn Street might be
Showing them, poor souls, aging elders
Thinking how, stooping, creaking, wasn't me
Aging's not for me, though I'm older

Strolling mothers, pushing baby strollers
Stopping beside me, feet needing rest
Telling of goings on, coming molars
Wishing to be living theirs, life's best

Seeing how these are living, pondering
Wondering, needing to know purpose
Pausing pair, my story them I'm telling
Saying they, train's coming here no more

DREAD -- a Friday Challenge Poem

Dread.  Small word, one letter larger than read
But. It never has left me, no matter
No matter that I'm older than older
Fear with consequences unknown to me

I shudder, shiver, and shake a little
Really a lot but I can't make that known
Can't make it known because I'm in public
Grown men shouldn't be afraid.  No boogeyman

Still I feel helpless in her presence, awe!
Not a man; this lady sets me trembling
No switch nor blade nor gun does she carry
Her stature towers, ominous intrigue

I meet her in tight places, like the lift
Woman, taller and younger than me. There!
Fear strikes, I dread this twosome encounter
Whenever, wherever she's there, I leave

Turkey Dinner -- a Thanksgiving Limerick

Turkey dinner relatives did attend
Enjoyed by all at least they did pretend
Cousins, aunts, uncles and in-laws
Turkey, dressing, corn and crab claws
Way too many, way too much, I contend

If had the time -- a set of poems for Tuesday Platform

If Only I Had Time

I'd clean the garage
I'd buy my spouse a new car
wait that takes money

- - - - - - - - - - -

if I had the time
cookies for the folks I'd make
my time's in the jar

- - - - - - - - - - -

all it takes is time
what they told me long ago
my time's gone I'm old

- - - - - - - - - - -

if I had the time
I'd write a nice little poem
wait I'm no poet

- - - - - - - - - - -

I'd give you the time
clocks have stopped would if I could
if I had the time

Painting is easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do. Edgar Dégas
The same goes for my poetry attempts (don't know how, but I enjoy it!).

Copied from my older post of January 25, 2009 and submitted for this week's Tuesday Platform
http://jimmiehov6.blogspot.com/2009/01/one-single-impression-if-only-i-had.html

It is a compilation of five senryu verses.  The clocks along with several other clocks and a toy poodle, Katrin, were gifts to Mrs. Jim from her very dear friend.
Katrin died December 2, 2014 of heart failure.  We loved Katrin so very much.

Please Let the Little Doggie Sleep ~~ A Weekend Mini Poem

please let the little doggie sleep
or he will love you to death
slobber and kiss, jump and squirm

he didn't finish his homework
went to sleep in the book
we needs to tell the teacher

learned to read at the age of three
that's young by doggie standards
the little guy's a genius

genie to let out of the bottle
be careful though, he'll slobber
kiss, jump on you, and squirm

That's what dog genii do (jē′nē-ī′)

A Challenge Poem ~~ Bits of Inspiration

"The Bridesmaid"

You see, dear, I married a heel.  I don't wish that for you, no way. My words for you "Dear, make sure."  Pay heed, what you see, what you feel.  He's at his best right now, won't change.  I thought he would because of love. The heel is after what he wants.  I've cried my pillow wet, tear soaked. But tears won't change one bit, not him.  Think twice before you say "I do." Not like me so late, eating words   My "I do" has become "I don't."

Picture from Susie Clevenger' excellent blog post,  Bits of Inspiration ~ Capturing Thoughts
It is of a painting of John Everett Millais (June 8 1829 – August 13, 1896, called called "The Bridesmaid". The bridesmaid will be a close friend of the bride. If the bridesmaid has a message to tell, very likely it will be some sound advice garnered eithe by her experience or from her intiuition.

Late night TV has gone Christmas

Be happy when Christmas has passed
"Frasier" reruns return his face
Once again, Hallmark Theatre
Late night TV's been preempted
Fifty-five nights of Christmas cheer

Classics, who watches anyway?
It won't be me, I doubt if you
"It’s a Wonderful Life" for you
And "elf" for me. That's all we like
So "Father Brown" on PBS

. Reading therapy dog first class
Adi was our beagle dog, now deceased.  Together she and I formed a certified pet therapy team.  Reading dogs love for children to read to them and pay utmost attention to the child.  Many of the children do not like to read in public nor to a teacher.  But many will read to a dog, thus boosting their confidence and reading abilities.  Adi and I also visited assisted living homes, she loved the attention given to her by residents having Alzheimer disease.

Here she is practicing her reading therapy skills with our granddaughter, BP.  BP is now a freshman in college.

A short poem -- "Small Car"

(Going small? Two for one parking)

"Small Car"
I have a small car
it goes at a crawl

The mileage is good
a tank lasts for weeks

My frame is smallish
the car fits me well

My friends think it's cute
the kids like it too

But my car is weak
it's small, can't go fast

Dog tracks on the patio ~~ a "The Tuesday Platform" poem

Dog Tracks

Dog tracks on the patio
Who was it that made these marks

Muddy prints, hound dog for sure
Played out in the muddy slough

Now he's here, skulking about
Leaving tracks for me to clean

He doesn't care, clean his feet
They won't fit my broom handle
