Dick Tracy, hero in the Comics - a poem for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 23
[My Dick Tracy 80 year old camera, (vase behind) Bought mail order Chicago] |
Dick Tracy
A ten year old's hero
Found out about him
from a clandestine comic
Dick Tracy, super detective
Found the comic book
at a cousin's home, fell
in love with the 'dick'
Cousin said, it is yours now
Tucked it in his trousers
his mom detested comic books
At home he hid it in the
hayloft away from Mom
Could have been with his
cigarettes, they too "found"
Strange what an uncle keeps
in his glove compartment
If you're not knowing of Dick
Tracy, he was a plainclothes
detective on the police force,
solving the unsolvable crimes
That was in the 1940s--soon
more exciting things going on
Like war, games, fighter planes
and bombers, Marines and so on
Then he found Dick Tracy again,
In the comic strips from paper
That too, now legal with Mom
But lost interest anyway
All was left is his Dick Tracy
camera and some memories

where the writing prompt was "Super Heroes". I am the 10-year-old boy in the writing--some readers will assume that but I wanted it way.

Oh, I too loved Dick Tracey when I was very young (I think I might find his attitudes questionable now) and I too had to sneak my forbidden comics into the house! Thanks for the reminder.
