Weekly Scribblings - A Fun Night Out; a page from my journal

Journaling (with amplified narratives) -- Take Me Out to the Ball Game

9/7/2021 ~~  The baseball game ~~ We ate well

(Amplification) My driving went bonkers today, I overshot the turnoff to the stadium and ended up on the south side of Highway 59.  So we pulled into a Quick Stop and asked for directions.   That was a waste they didn't know their surroundings there, I think they had just arrived from another country.  To save the day, I had Mrs. Jim ask how we could get to Texas Highway 6.

When we reached the exit there was a sign, "Constellation Field" and to turn left.  Eighteen Dollars$ for parking!!!  Whoo, Whoo.  I remember when parking at the Astrodome was only 5$.  And to boot, only credit cards were accepted.

Picking up our free tickets at the Will Call window, they didn't ask for I.D, their only comment was "I doubt there is another last name like that!"   Before we reached the ticket taker we were approached by Mrs. W. who was glad to see us come.  I apologized for being late, she forgave, and mentioned how so very few of the 300 invited had showed.

After saying hellos to the other two ladies we knew and being introduced to two other XYZ employees we were escorted to the second floor box reserved for our group.  There we were shown the make-it-yourself ingredients for hot dogs, hamburgers, and cheeseburgers.   I had a nice loaded hot dog, Mrs. Jim had a plain hamburger with onions and mustard and no bread.  Also beans, slaw, and Mac and Cheese.  Later we had a frosted brownie cake and a Diet Coke.

We chose to sit outside to eat and watch the ballgame now at the second inning.  There was no score, zero to zero.  Our team, the Sugarland** Skeeters, had a home run in the 4th inning to match the earlier run of the opponent, the Las Vegas Aviators.  No more scores until in overtime, our Skeeters had a walk with the bases loaded to win by one to two.

The ride home was uneventful and we were in bed before midnight.

All in all it was a fun, fun evening.

She's a Bit Weird? -- A Limerick

She picks up quarters with her toes
.
Has followings where ere she goes
.
Her friends are getting skeered*
.
They say she's a bit weird
.
Think not, my tongue touches my nose

Today I'm linked with Mama Z. at the Real Toads, Words Count (Link)

She  said, "The older I get, the easier it is for me to admit that I'm a little weird. Yes, I can pick up a quarter using only my toes. Yes, I'm a water sign that hates the water. And, yes, I do watch Fox News just to ...  See?  A little weird."
(and)
"What about you?  Are you a little weird, too?  Do tell . . . in 46 words or less."

My little Limerick has 31 words plus four in the title (post header). Guess I made under 46.

There is a name for this type poetry, I did not invent it.
The name has escaped from me on "this morning."

These books are a sampling of my everyday reading.
I also like younger classics such as Hemingway, Twain and Dickens.

Midweek Blues -- Who is driving the boat?

You couldn't prove anything by me. Since men do boat handling best I will assume the man is.
The fellow appears to have a rudder handle. Or could there be a real driver inside?

We saw this pretty blue barge boat (also called 'narrow boat' [link]) on the Canal du Midi in Southern France (link). We passed it while we were canal boating just over a month ago.

[Answer: they both are, the lady up front is telling the guy in the back with the rudder where, when, and which way he should go and all the other important driving instructions. Ladies are good at that.]

I am now a charter member of the new MidWeek Blues group, maybe the second person to post, Rebecca, of Dusty Cellar is first. But she started this so she ought to be the first. They post around Wednesday I think.

If you want to post a MidWeek Blues picture, go get directions from Rebecca by clicking on the logo below. She has a Mr. Linky and good directions (considering it is for the first time). Just do what I did.

We are back -- Looking At the Sky -- Our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday

Jimmiehov, Jimmiehov, where have you been?
I've been to Paris to see the Eiffel.
Jimmiehov, oh Jim, what did you do there?
I kissed Mrs. Jim, there by the Seine.

Oh yes, the sky, the sky. It was this blue with pretty clouds, all over Paris.

We had fun. I will write more of our Spring 2009 Europe Holiday later.

One Single Impression: One word -- out-a-here

One word -- "out-a-here"

One word
to say, I'll say it now.
Goodbye today, I'm "out-a-here."
Far away lands, they're calling me.
Don't ring your hands, I have no fear.

That word I'll say, good vibes are now.
Goodbye today, I'm "out-a-here."
Just picked my flight, Air France for me.
Toast for tonight, it rhymes with beer.

Hub Cap Reflections ... Looking At the Sky

I got this one because I liked the truck. I didn't have Sky Looking in mind then. So it doesn't show much sky. The vehicle is a 1950 Ford Pickup truck.

This one does show some sky. It is on my friend's 1951 Lincoln that was pulled along side me on a public street waiting for the light to change.

The picture on the left shows that we are really on the street. You can see my 1974 Green Mustang II Ghia in the hubcap, waiting beside it for the light to change.

The light did change. Now the '51 Lincoln is the fourth car up. I showed this one for you to see a SKY PICTURE. I didn't want to cheat too badly for this Sky Looking Day post.

An added goody, this road is closer than two miles away (south) of our home. We were on our way to another car club meeting at a member's home. He lives in our subdivision, less than a mile from me.
