Adi Beagle Dog -- NaPoWriMo 2022 Day Seventeen

Adi was retired -- In more ways than one
Adi died in 2012

Adi; our Beagle Dog;
                            sort of

Adi was my granddog
Google never liked her
mostly because granddog
was spelled with
two words in
her sad dictionary

Adi was a grand dog
and was our granddog.

Adi came to live with us
when our daughter could
not keep Beagle Dogs in
her new apartment so she
had stayed with us for the
rest of her life.

Adi and I were registered
as a pet therapy couple
We were tested every year
She loved to visit
the Alzheimer wing
Every resident loved her
and she loved them in return

One day Adi's mom came to visit
Hubby had come along
Adi didn't know they were coming
I didn't want her to get
her hopes up too far ahead
of time

watch the video
below
to see our daughter's welcome

Dolls and Toys -- NaPoWriM 2022 Day Fifteen

    Be My Paper Doll

Boys have toys
That's well known
And when they grow older
some they still own
I don't mean their Porsches
and electronics

Ones they might keep for play
like down on the floor or
up on a table top
While others are keepsakes
of which they never play

So now I'll tell of mine
Some I still have some are
out in a grove
Like my steel wheelbarrow wheel,
or rusting behind a barn
Others were only in my mind
though I never owned
That would be the electric train
I found every Christmas time
It stays in the store or Sears catalog
or on my cousin's shelf

Teddy bears and trucks and cars
Most every marble I've ever
had resting in an old crank churn
The tin monkey that knows
his multiplication table through twelve

Six Match Box cars on my dresser
lined up ready to race and
my gyroscope in its box
A wooden box with my wood box and
My Shirley Temple scrape book
that Mom and I filled
An old cast iron taxi my sister
bought sort of like the one
I had when small
There's my Dick Tracy camera
I'd ordered from Chicago

And a few others I haven't told

There's one I played with
but never owned
And NEVER WILL
That's the paper dolls
Ones like I played with
while visiting my cousins

I would cut out clothes for the dolls to wear
When we ran out then we'd find some more in the Sears and Wards catalogs
Doing all that was fun

But now I've no desire for them
No desire to even play
let alone own
There is an exception
But still, I would be FAKING IT
That's if a GRANDAUGHTER
wanted me to play
Paper Dolls

Oh yes, I forgot to tell of,
my trusty Red Ryder BB Gun,
it still shoots
And my Snow Sled
hanging on a garage wall,
we have no snow in our
Gulf Coast part of Texas

[My dresser top -- Race Ready]

Poem, Tall -- NaPoWriMo 2022 Day Eleven

     Tall Women

Tall women or girls if I slip
Frighten me in elevators
Whenever one gets in with me
Especially if just us two

Quickly then I push the button
Push the button for the next floor
Not on the run but I will scram
Tall women, if taller than me

For a reason that I don't know
Scare the bejabbers out of me

Love Poem -- NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 10

Mr. and Mrs. Jim's wedding picture (1973)
- - -
They* said to write a love poem

To my sweetest, my blossom true
wanting to write you a love poem
telling you how much I love you
fingers to keys sweet words to come

tell how you felt when first you saw her
I will try to write a love poem

When first we met my heart went wild
no tender little pitty-pat
but one long jolt you caused, my child,
a bolt from the blue hit my chest

how you knew it was her you loved
It came one day into my head

Listen to my arrow pierced heart
my life will never be the same
Dan Cupid hit me on the mark
that arrow had your name

tell now about being with her

My life is whole a life complete
I need you always by my side
dearer than chocolate you're so sweet
love you always will you're my pride

are you happy with what you wrote?

If I could only write a poem
if I had the sweet words I felt
if I could now put them to print
there would be a love poem for you

discarded thoughts that didn't fit?

Many thoughts I dropped one thing sure
I love you to Heaven above
you can do no wrong you're so pure
I can't live without you my love

Aubade -- NaPoWriMo 2022 Day 8

    An Aubade*;
     the day after

Morning has broken
 wake up little Sweetheart
The sun is rising
 hurry before it's hot
It's time for breakfast
 coffee is in your cup
New day is ready
 ready for your attack

Morning has broken
 little Sweetheart wake up

We've had a nice time
 our wedding went just fine
Just as fine weekend
 learned more of each other
Helped our love to grow
 Loving you more and more

Morning has broken
 wake up little Sweetheart

People are calling
 want to see you today
They're from your workplace
 wondering if you'll come
Your work has you now
 tonight we'll continue

Wake up little Sweetheart
 morning has risen

A Proverb -- NaPoWriM 2022 Day Seven

A good man is hard to find

A good man is hard to find
Nobody argues with that
I tell young ladies I meet
When looking for a man friend

"Be sure to find a nice boy"
And then I go on to her
"There's sooo many NOT out there,
looking for self--do you bad"

"Like my mother said, 'You won't
won't find nice girls in the bars'"

Eddie Green, as the title of his song A Good Man Is Hard To Find:  [Composed in 1918]
.
A good man is hard to find
You always get the other kind
Just when you think that he is your pal
You look for him and find him fooling 'round some other gal
Then you rave, you even crave
To see him laying in his grave
So, if your man is nice, take my advice and hug him in the morning, kiss him ev'ry night,
Give him plenty lovin', treat him right
For a good man nowadays is hard to find, a good man nowadays is hard to find.

Boo Boogy Man -- a Line Acrostic -- NaPoWriMo 2022 Day Six

   Where?

Where is the boogy man tonight
is he sleeping tight or
the onery old
boogy
man
tonight he may prowl

He may be under my bed
may have sharpened fangs
be waiting just for me
under covers think
my mind must be clear
bed is not safe from him

he may be under yours
may have sharpened fangs
be they for biting you
under your bed waiting
yours isn't safe from him

no one knows until we look
one must crawl down low
knows not if we're safe
until we look
we must
look real good

B a t m a n -- NaPoWriMo 2022

     For Many Years

B a t m a n's  been living in the comics
for many years he's been hiding there
Hiding from the parents so well
but now I've been told he's getting old

The kids have no problems finding him
he shows every day to those who love
Cares not love or like him in degrees
some have seen him not and he doesn't care

For his true fans he aims all to please
covets every "Like" that he can get
They're sorry for him, he's getting old
stumbles, falls, spits his cud, worse than that

Every comic wants their big heydays
Kids know he's been had, now finding tech

Breakfast in Bed - NaPoWriMo 2022 Day Four

       Beans and Bread

"Beans and bread" I've  heard that said
Not joking at all that's what they said
Breakfast for Brits in my head
Pinching pennies they and still well fed

When quarantined for ten days
By my door several times on my plate
Fare for the poor what I got
Embellished by sausage
 and some fruit

Food for me and prompt fit for poets *

The breakfasts were good, beans, sausage, the croissant and some times scrambled egg was of my choosing. We are home now, today, in Katy, Texas.

Sunday Muse - Memories - NaPoWriMo 2022 Day Three

An old diner / along the road
It brings memories / of my youth
Meals on weekends / the food was good
Minor item / there's so much more

More to tell so here goes / the diner in my mind sat beside the sidewalk / had parking in the front / behind was a lush green lawn belonging to the "Y"

The YWCA is / may still be there today / I dated her / she worked where I was but a different floor / she made watches I made proximity fuses for the Navy torpedoes / Elgin National Watch factory

She was my first Steady / we both were young / not twenty-one / teens I think / she liked my hot rod Ford / we'd ride and ride and then park and park in the dark / we'd get hot and bothered / touchy too / but we never disobeyed / disobeyed our mothers not

She had to be in the Y by eleven / she always was / we didn't drink or do drugs / real nice kids / but after I took her home I'd cruise some more / sometimes party with the boys /

or race my Ford out on the Interstate not yet opened / I'd built up the engine myself / my Ford would outrun the Chevys

then one day her old boy friend came home from the wars / my girl was not my girl anymore / she left town quit her job / didn't tell me goodbye / I never saw her again

don't regret our time together / well over a year

I never minded that diner again
But still it's IN my mind / won't go away

 - Our NaPoWriMo Day One leader choice for Monday, "optional prompt (for Monday)! I got this one from a workshop I did last year with Beatrix Gates, and I’ve found it really helpful. The prompt is based on Robert Hass’s remarkable prose poem, “A Story About the Body.” The idea is to write your own prose poem that, whatever title you choose to give it, is a story about the body. The poem should contain an encounter between two people, some spoken language, and at least one crisp visual image.

Happy writing!"

The Cake ~~ NaPoWriMo 2022, Day One

A Cake Lover Tells

My favorite
A cake with candles
Candles burning brightly
Quickly blow them out

Ones for me to blow
But first I make a wish
A wish I'll want to come true
Birthday spent with you

Will happen I know
'Cause you always do
You'll find I'm running away
So then you run with me

And bring my cake along

Forever - a pre-NaPoWriMo ditty

Forever Comes

Forever comes once
 in a lifetime
She'll haunt us until
 the day we die
Makes us fret and brood
 sometimes we cry

Wipe our eyes stand tall
 leave her alone

Worry instead of
 the after life
Make peace with the Lord
 what folk can do
TV, I, preachers
 will show us how
