Friday Writings -- Who has seen?

    Mama's Early Lesson

Where is the Boogeyman tonight
He might be under your bed or
he might be under mine

One never knows for sure
It never hurts to look and
it pays big time for assurance

I'm pretty sure he is there
some of the times I didn't look
But one never knows

Mama says she doesn't know
what the Boogeyman looks like
She has never seen him

Very few people ever have
I dread the day that I might

I used to take a flying leap from halfway across my room, so he couldn't grab me by the leg as I got into bed.

I don't think I was ever scared of the Boogeyman or monsters under my bed or the like. That didn't mean I wasn't scared to go to sleep though. I love this little poem.

Happy to report, no one in my childhood talked about the boogeyman .... so I was oblivious. I realized they do exist as an adult.

I never saw the Boogeyman, but a pirate stalked me one night as a child. It was terrifying. I've never forgotten it.

Never saw a Boogeyman. My terror was Mom forgetting to leave a light on.

Oh, yes, I remember the boogey monster under the bed! I would be afraid to lower my feet out of bed in the dark. My mother always said there was nothing in the dark that could hurt me that wasn't there in the day. Thanks a lot, mom!
