My write for the day, April 2, 2023:

      What is this?

What is a Song?
It's a tune waiting to be murdered
by a guy like me who cannot sing
    but he tries--utter flop

What is an Owl
An owl is a funny bird who can't
    sleep at night, partly because
he has four dimensions of color
spectrum vision that keeps him awake

What is an Oyster?

Its a little sea monster who's afraid
to come out of its shell; it only
does that when it is dying and
ready to be cooked or eaten raw

What is the Fog

It's a condition of the brain so
that the one who's in it acts silly
    goofy and cannot think straight

What is a Ghost?
It's a person who dresses in a white
sheet at Halloween time; he tries
to scare old ladies and little kids

and a bonus,

What is a Quahog
    A Quahog is a word that I didn't
know the meaning of until I sicced
    my Search Engine on it
You can find it out also, just click here

 - I am linked with NaPoWriMo, National Poem Writing Month, for writing of five to ten of the words listed below.  You can see the instructions and will be able to read others' writings there at

My word list was:
owl          generator      fog      river      clove      miracle      cyclops     oyster     mercurial     seaweed     gutter         artillery     salt      elusive      thunder      ghost      acorn      cheese      longing      cowbird     truffle     quahog         song

Note:
The dictionary pictured in this Spine Poem is 110 years old and had belonged to my father. We were in the process of moving and I was about to throw it away. I had been keeping it because I thought it was the one Dad 'corrected', by changing the pronunciation of Hostess to utilize a soft "O" that he had penned in. My mother would always be very upset at him and his, 'whatever' whenever he would bring this up.

Now come to find out after my saving this dictionary for several years after Dad died (2009 at age 97) that this it is not the one he had changed. Bummer, so I had thought that I would throw it out even if it was published in 1913, making it 110 years old. A 'Spine Poem" makes a poem using the words of spines of books. Here I used some liberty in using a similar sounding but different meaning of the middle book in my stack.  You can see more of my Spine Poems by clicking here

  Give the dog a bone
and he will love you forever
  Just before come night
  bone has tell-tale scent
  He'll lick with his tongue
  exchanging your scent for his
  Then bury quickly
  hides bone from oncoming storm

  Wolves in the forest
  and coyotes too there abound
  By light of the moon
they'll come in to find his loot
  Packs of predators
  commotion, chaos erupts
  Winter coming fast
wind howls echo through the hills

  Dog will sing a rhyme
his stash safe beneath the dirt

Word List Poem - Jump

    Fickle

Fickle was his last spoken word
She'd broken his heart one last time
Heartache.
Having the blues too mild for him

He was off to do the Big J
Jump.
From a tall building he would Jump
Jump and end a bundled heap

Wounded and weary, crying not
Naive.
Believing a two-timer lass
Ones like her drive men to the drink

Drank he did, like a lonesome mate
Highrise.
Look up, he's there on the flat roof
One, two, three, Leap!!
                  Down,
                            down,
                                       goodbye

das Ende

Poem, Endless Love

Formerly posted April 28, 2020
for NaPoWriMo Day 28 -

Without Numbers;
Too many to count

My love for you begins at South
It climbs mountains to wink at stars
And goes back down into the dale

Zillions and zillions times over
Each step each blink of eye
My love for you filling my mind

I know you feel the same for me
Numberless as the beach buggers
Smacking lips wishing for fresh fish

Consumes us both my love for you
Your love for me we do exchange
Till we reach North which never comes

Numberless steps before it ends
Love made from all the sweet flowers
Numberless in themselves we coo

Coo and cuddle will never end
I love you you love me dizzy
Up and down those high hills higher

Higher and higher our love grows
Numberless buggers North as well
Blessed in High Heaven is our love

A Poem for Weekly Scribles.

Ultimatum?
She was warned.
She was given an explanation.
Nevertheless, she persisted.

Rebuttal?
She was warned  "Horde no more"
To which she promptly said
You are being a boar
It's shampoo for my head

I'm getting no younger
Live my life like I wish
You'd kill me from hunger
Mere spinach in my dish

Bonkers!  She was given
an explanation, but
Still no avail, bidden
to her own muddy rut

(Hope they don't find my keys)
I may wish to travel
While I still have some cheese
Sometimes hungry as Hell

You'd best behave yourself
But nevertheless, she
persisted, like dour elf
(I'll hang on to my key)

(Pills, under my covers )
Toasted raisin bread, jam
and cream cheese like mothers
(Too rough my life can end

My Choices
Unspoken
(Travel with hidden keys
or
Die orchestrated death)
(Do all have an escape)

A Poem - 55-Word Flash and Word List

Scammer Remorse

Underworld profits beckoning
Colonnade pillared mansion needs
Seethe as the suckers surely will
Crescent moon shines over us both

Faint and fainter it's image grows
Sunshine day after tomorrow
East still the brightening  suns will rise
Brooding no longer they will be

Foolish people come every day
Silver lines their pockets for me

Saturday Morning Poem, "Traveled to ..."

Traveled to ...

Calling all poets, "do a write for today
on three of your favorite towns"
Alright, I will try.  There are so many,
I've been to all fifty states

London and Paris are on my list,
aren't they on everyone's?  Been to London
the most, probably visits would add up
to several months, try five?  Well, more than four.
Last time was this spring

Visits to London have been my favorite
ever since way before I ever went
Before my days at school even, I learned
one must "look under the Queen's chair for ...
for the little mouse living there"

By golly now, I have done that,
my first visit to London I did,
back in the eighties.  Mouse was gone

Paris is next, I've been all over France
Time spent rivals that in the U.K.
Eat your heart out, but I love going there

Favorite thing there is eating a hot dog
You can get them along the Seine from a stand,
try to see, it maybe near the Eifel?
This one there will be a nice long but thin
sausage stuck inside a cut to length baguette

Tell them before if you want mustard, they
will squeeze it into the hole in the bread
before poking the dog on down.  Now walk
along the Seine, taking in the boats and sights

Or at a pub (don't say that word in France)
it will be two sausages laying on
a small loaf, French bread, longer than batard
Lying underneath those dogs will be a
little lettuce, wilted from the oven's heat
On top is melted cheese, probably Swiss
Add a cut tomato laying along
the sides, broiling just a bit with the cheese

You'll get it hot from the oven, Yummy
Mustard and onions to suit, and head for
the street again.  Or have it there with a drink

My last of three will end, old stomping grounds
Lots of firsts there, some can't be told, ever
Worst I will tell is when the town marshal
called me in to the principal's office

We are at Tekamah, Nebraska, small
There you will find the world's best high school
Graduate young there, try sixteen
Your English teacher may be twenty or
twenty-one.  For sure young enough for a
high school teacher crush

But across the street and up a block is
the best place in town to visit.  Called the
Burt County Museum, it's open a few
days a week, check before you come.  For sure
it'll be open on Saturday but
never on a Sunday

Come May there will be "Coffee on the Porch"
(act like a native but you can not hide)
on the last Saturday morning before
the Alumni Banquet at the City
Auditorium.  Free, small donation?

That's my list, I hope you endured.  I did,
living every minute and more here on
my writing machine back in 'Mega' Texas

[Mrs. Jim and KP at Brighton Beach, I stayed in London that day]
_ _ _ _

A bunch of London pictures:
And now Paris and some France pictures:
Finally,Tekamah and Burt Country, Nebraska:

Why were/are you there? What did you do / are you doing there? Are they, or how are they connected?  All in iambic pentameter.  :) Just kidding. Form not required."
