Flies - a Poem for Friday Writing

. “Do what we can, summer will have its flies” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Do those words you to tell your story?  Magaly thinks and hope's they will today. Let's write and we'll see.

Flies in My Pie

Pick up your spoon
and play your tune
Flies in your pie
don't take a bite

'Cause if you do
they're bad for you
Insects' nasty
born from nasty

Like horses dead
Eggs in their head

Sad - a Poem for Friday Writings and dVerse Quadrille

"Adi is retiring from Pet Partners"
.
Adi and I were best buddies
[posted 2016, link]

  Deepest Sleep

Awoke this morning

Feeling very sad

My dog died last night

Vet came to pronounce

There is no help for her

She must be put to sleep

My face on her neck

Slowly she went to sleep

Oh that I could join her darkness

Rabbit and the Fowls - - a Poem for Friday Writings and a Piece of Prosery for dVerse

 Missing friends

Little rabbit was

 getting lonesome

He'd sit by the fence

 missing his buddies

Something told the wild geese

 It was time to fly.”

Then they all left

  alone again

Didn't last him long

 ducks coming in

Quickly making friends

 Rabbit's alone no more

Rosemary has asked as an optional assignment for us to write a poem or story (or a few) in only 160 characters including title and spaces. (If you choose to write more than one, please put them all in one post and make sure that collectively they don't exceed our 369 word limit.)
I chose not to do that and wrote instead what you see next here.

A Short Ode - a Write for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 24

Ode to an Injured Wild Rabbit

"Wee, sleekit, cow’rin, tim’rous beastie, O, what a panic’s in thy breastie!"

You've just read in British the first sentence of a John Burns very famous poem It is "Ode to a Mouse".  Poor mouse had been
partially plowed under a farmer's plow blade

I will continue this write with his first sentence in mind

Oh small animal, I am so sorry, this trap wasn't meant for you. Rather for rats running wild. My children made a good find and had brought you to our house. Now we'll get you fixed up, clean, bandage, and splint that bloody leg.

If you have babies at home I hope and pray that Daddy Bunny will care for them and feed them well.

The people who set that trap in our hay field should be ashamed and feel sorry for you.  They are poachers breaking the law.

I'm hoping with you that the vet will fix you maybe so that you can soon go home, walking again.

Cat stuff - NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 22

        [Our Daughter's Russian Blue cat]

   Cat Fight

Hey diddle doddle,
The cat and the fiddle,
They had a big fight,
The cat won out,
The fiddle had a black eye

The cow quit giving milk,
The moon cried big tears,
The little dog laughed no more,
The dish leaked to the press,
And the silver spoon sold tickets

Unspeakable-- a Poem for NaPoWriMo 2024 Day 16

    Getting Worse

His rash was unspeakable
In places we never want
Bad chafe initiated
His underwear went unworn

He didn't see his doctor,
a woman, he was bashful
Oh dear, it was getting worse,
every day.  Now it hurts

Medicine he had was old
And the rats in the barn
 had longer tails

 - I think I am on prompt today; you can be a judge.  ". . . here’s today’s (optional) prompt, taken from our 2016 archives. Today, we challenge you to write a poem in which you closely describe an object or place, and then end with a much more abstract line that doesn’t seemingly have anything to do with that object or place, but which, of course, really does. The “surprise” ending to this James Wright poem is a good illustration of the effect we’re hoping you’ll achieve. An abstract, philosophical kind of statement closing out a poem that is otherwise intensely focused on physical, sensory details."

A Question -- a Piece of Prose for dVerse Prosery and for NaPoWriMo Day Nine

["Fu Bao in quarantine ", In China, born in 2020,
Panda Bear just came from lease at South Korea]

                    Bears Checking Out

I was asked the other day a question about the stars, "What does it matter that the stars we see are already dead?" I was stumped and of course I put it to rest along with seems a zillion rhetorical questions I have been asked. "I dunno."

When I got home I went to old trusty fellow, Mr. Bing whose helper is Ms. AI. They know a lot, trivia and otherwise. Well, he scratched his head calling a friend. Those two knew, he wanted to make sure.

Bing's retort, “No matter how you look at it, the idea that all, or even most, or even a lot, of the stars you can see in the sky are already dead is simply wrong. It sounds true, and kinda sorta fits with things you might think you know, but in the end the facts will win.”

My Cow - a Haibun for Friday Writings

Imagine a Brown Swiss Milk Cow, brown in color, with the same features as my FFA, Future Farmers of America, project for my junior and senior Ag activity and class. We took her home from a calf auction when she was small, just a few months old.

That was for my sophomore year, I fed and cared for her, she was a pretty young heifer at summer break time. By graduation time next spring she was a good Milk Cow.  We separated her from her little calf the day it was born, and she joined our small Milk Herd.

All school FFA animals at our school must have been named.   I  named her Brownie.

Baby to mama
One short year boviens become
A good investment

Situation Intolerable - a Poem for dverse Poetics

René Magritte, Homesickness (1940), oil on canvas

What I see in the photo

Home seems different, seems so very warm
Back to where I left off this very bridge
Had no wings back then plunged into the cold
Team with wings dressed in white that pulled me out

I was issued suit like that, white with wings
Notices on my back saying, "stay pending"
Pending interview with the famous saint
Backlog was ahead of me but I could wait

I had persisted going back, visit
Visit with kin left behind and explain
Tell of my ills, worries, evil thoughts why
I could bear no more had to make the jump

Now thinking why and what, why I would leave
Leave a mess behind that I couldn't cope
So I was released, on leave of absence
Gave me the lion to ride him back home

Didn't tell me before but when we left
Out the golden door my suit turned to black
Wings I'd never used they said take with me
But don't to use those wings as they're evil now

And we came but the kin understood not
Why I'd leave like that, messes left for them
Here we stand on that bridge ready to leave
Wanting to test these wings, I'd like to fly

Lion senses bad, he needs to mount up
With one giant leap and we could be gone

Rizz leads to ??? -- a Poem for Friday Writings

      She Had the Rizz

She was cute, cute as a bugs ear
She had the rizz to go with it
She'd wag her tail and boys would fall

She had the rizz, just waged her tail
She made her mother cry in joy
She had been a gift for her mom

She met a guy who loved her rizz
She was wooed as she heard his verse
She called his words kudos for her

She dreaded day Daddy comes home
She wondered will boy he approve
She'd bite her lip and hide the rizz

She worried too about her boy
She dreaded their meeting the most
She lived those thoughts.  Oops here he comes

She heard this greeting, "Daughter dear,
my how you've grown, tummy the most"
      (a sigh between these lines)
I hope I will be called Grandpa"

[Photo is taken by me, first published here in 2020]

Note:  I had this mother rabbit in our backyard in mind when the words were coming out.

 - Magaly has invited us "to write poetry or prose which includes the "Oxford word of the year for 2023: rizz, an informal noun, defined as ‘style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner’.
I have quite often used the word "rizz" as a colloquialism in place of "risen" and "arose" to mess with my 'grammar wise' friends.

A New Home -- a Poem for Friday Writings

    Going Home

We're going home today
Luxurious manor
Patiently yearningly
Dreamingly going now

Specially-designed craft
Happily we're boarded
Anticipating pair
Orphans we always thought

Lush tender green young stocks
Lush green, pasture-like fields
Bambo shoots leaves and stalks
Heavenly-like yumminess

Mysterious China
Unseen new home awaits

 - 1. China has loaned some near extinct giant pandas to the US and various other countries. They have propagated well, the project was a sucess.  The agreements are expiring and the pandas must be returned. The Washington D.C.'s three left for China this Wednesday , November 9.  Only three others in Memphis, Tennessee, remain, scheduled to leave next year.  [Click here to read more]
 - 2. Right after my retirement (2001) during our three week visit to China we visited Chengdu to see the Sichuan Giant Panda Sanctuaries [China, Moscow, and the Panama Canal travel items were on my bucket list-you can search my blog for our 2006 Moscow to St. Petersburg River Cruise via Viking Cruises glimpses here]
