As I drive
across the bridge
Our part of
the lake is host
Host to what
seems a zillion
A zillion
foreigners there
Across the
water between
"them" and us
They're of
all kind, assorted
Lump them
together, "snowbirds"
Northerns--hidding from winter's wiles
-- 44 word Quadrille
Note: This is the northern end of Lake Conroe at Conroe, Texas north of Houston just a bit. In the winters which are fairly warm in Texas and other parts of the South and Southwest the folk from the northern states come south to have nicer weather rather than the harsh winters of the northern states.
We here in the South call them "Snowbirds". This trailer park is very full up during the winters. We lived south of this park on the other side of the lake in a golf course neighborhood but have moved back into a suburb of Houston to be closer to our younger daughter and her family. They were an hour and a half drive from us before the move. Now it is a five-minute walk.

I like the drama of this drive. Nice photo as well.
We don't have snowbirds here, not that I know of, but we do have snow geese. A lovely image, Jim.
*applause!*
well written, Jim! I can see the scene.
Much love,

Nice one Jim.
Happy you dropped by my blog.
Much💜love
Jim, happy for the note after the poem as it helps me understand the context. Also happy you get to live so close to your loved ones now.
So happy you get to live so close to family. That IS a lot of "foreigners" across the water. Yeesh.
Interesting that they feel like "foreigners" though just from northern states :) Nice picture!!!!
That certainly sounds like a pleasurable experience! How nice that it's now only a short walk away!
Good to know you are living close to your daughter. Rall
I enjoyed your well written poem
Nice to live close to your daughter now
Interesting thoughts in those verses. There is a tendency to lump people into groups and snowbirds are a group that generally get preferential treatment over some others deemed as foreigners.
Nice one Jim. I like the word snowbirds.
As winter approaches each year, my brain goes into overdrive. Where to go. How long might we stay. But can we afford it? Will Safeway allow Carl that much vacation. Snowbirds Unite!!!
Now it is a five-minute walk
How nice Dr Jim to be with someone close and avoiding all thehustle and bustle brought on by the 'snowbirds'
Hank
I used to live just south of Houston in Tomball. Nice, or should I say hot?, memories here.
I really enjoy your descriptions. I like that the poem doesn't view the outsiders as troublesome--that's so common these. I also love that you and Mrs. Jim are closer to loved ones.
I know many Florida snowbirds. I think I would like to be a snowbird.
Love your descriptions, Jim!
