"You can't always get what you want" ~~ a 226 Word Flash Poem

Did you ever ask

Did you ever ask Santa,
What I want for Christmas is ...
Santa says his nice things and
is hoping dearly that Mom

That Mom or Dad will tell you
Tell you that what you asked for
Isn't right for you, you're young
Much too young for what you asked

This is what Santa wants, "You
can’t always get what you want.
But if you try sometimes, you
might find ...You get what you need."
.

Did you ever ask your Mom
I want a new bicycle
You mom says her nice things, then
Says to you, Go see your Dad

Dad, Mom's tagging you along,
Has a frown on his face
Isn't real happy with your request
Let us fix up your Raleigh

This is what Daddy wants  "You
can’t always get what you want.
But if you try sometimes, you
might find ...You get what you need."
.

You could ask for lots of things
A nice new school car, jewels,
Fine clothing, power at school
But you have so much, really

Have you ask Jesus for your being,
For your place in life, for you
Jesus may not give you these
Instead ask and he'll give you Heaven

Life after death for you.  "You
can’t always get what you want.
But if you try sometimes, you
might find ...You get what you need."

Magaly has a list of sayings and she wants us to use the saying but to change or add to it.  I added to "You can’t always get what you want" the next line of the Rolling Stones song, by the title of my first line.  Magaly also wants fairly short line, Flash length, to be shorter than or equal to 313 words.  Mine has 226 words with the title but not the two periods I use for verse spacers.

You can read a nice sermon given by the Pastor of Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, 921 Madison Ave, NY NY, on "You can't always get what you want" (includes references to the Rolling Stones song), at this link, https://www.mapc.com/worship/sermons/2012/08/26/you-cant-always-get-what-you-want

Indeed a huge difference between what you want and what you need. Wise people learn that after a while.

Asking a needing have never been the same thing. The sooner we realize and accept that fact, the happier we will be.

Thankfully there were times I have been denied what I wanted and given what I needed. My precious husband is the biggest gift. I was begging and mooning over another boy, when thankfully I was given the amazing opposite.

And in the end you get something far better than anything else you ever wanted or asked for! Excellent poem, Jim!
