A Poem for the Weekend Mini-challenge

Breakfast

I love my wife dearly
She doesn't cook me breakfast

My wife doesn't cook
I dearly love my breakfast

My breakfast loves me dearly
I doesn't cook my wife

My cook loves my wife
Me breakfast I dearly doesn't

- Kim wishes as a Mini-challenge to write patterned on a poem written by a guest lecturer, Wendy Poe, in her class on the uncertainty of a poet.  Read it here, http://frombooksofpoems.blogspot.com/2007/03/uncertainty-of-poet-by-wendy-cope.html?m=1 .  You will see that I could have shown more mix ups  but my story has been told with the four couplets.  Plus I'm writing using my smartphone as my laptop has cratered.
 - Then too I'm readying for my sabbatical and hadn't planned posting for a few weeks.

A Poem for the Weekend Mini Challenge

Maladroit

Maladroit, a fairly big word
for messed up or being clumsy
or the like--you can look it up

Maladroit, a word barely in
my working vocabulary
But it fits my direction goes

You see I hardly know left, right
My sister's that way too she says
that comes with "half dyslexia"

My problem first came to light when
I was marching in the Army
Left right left right your right left right ...

Those starts and turns were bad for me
I'd often hear, "Soldier put a
rock in your right hand." Not much help

And when I'm driving please don't say
"Turn left here," because we'll be through
the intersection way before

I think it out. Say "North or south."
When driving in France harder still
Please dont say to me "gauche et droite."

So now you can know why I wear
my watch on my right wrist. A 'Clunce'

"a hybrid wird produced when 'dunce' is mated with 'klutz'."
I first used it in another of my blogs, "Ask Dr. Jim (blog)", https://jimmiehov8.blogspot.com/2018/05/wife-knows-she-was-right-husband-thinks.html?m=1

A Poem for the Weekend Mini-Challenge

Grandma's Kitchen;
 things I remember

My Grandma's kitchen
was my safe harbor
A place where I could
be a boy my own

Safe from family males
swearing grandfather
my father learning
to be caring dad

But Grandma found time
time for us to talk
Secrets small, our big
confide safely here

Grandma Cookies were
the best--chocolate chip
Cracker-lined pot held
the best oyster stew

Furnished with blind great
grandfather's organ
iron kitchen stove and
table viewing barn

Cousins aunts uncles
and my grandparents
Holiday feast cooked
our grandpa hollered

"All you kids get in
the woodbox and wait!"

Was Grandpa joking?

A short Poem for the Weekend prompt, Groovy

I was running;
trying to dodge

I was running my paper route
trying to dodge water puddles
If one hit I'd cringe and then try
to do better the next few times

Sis couldn't come with this morning
little bug bit her ear she cried
She wasn't tough like a fellow
my kind--girls are made syrupy

Syrupy I don't mind one bit
'cause I do like their company
Together we drive down the road
throwing papers 'feeling groovy'
.

Simon & Garfunkel - The 59th Street Bridge Song (1967) (Feelin' Groovy).wmv

"The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)"

Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feelin' groovy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy

Hello, lamppost, what'cha knowin'?
I've come to watch your flowers growin'
Ain't'cha got no rhymes for me?
Doot-in doo-doo, feelin' groovy
Ba da da da da da da, feelin' groovy

I got no deeds to do
No promises to keep
I'm dappled and drowsy and ready to sleep
Let the morning time drop all its petals on me
Life, I love you
All is groovy

A Weekend Micro Poem

Like I am;
  with empty parts

Make it better is the cry I hear
Always ever people want to fix
You alone can fill my empty parts

I'm not real perfect in many ways
Looks flawed  browned bruised scratched and missing parts

Listen, my words scratchy voice.  Feel, bumps
over my body them you don't see

Use a Cane, spas pills cream do no good
Ugly mess, you love me like I am
There's no fixing me My hurts you soothe

 - One of Kerry's request was to write a poem using the phrase, with empty parts.  She also asked for no more than ten lines.  I have ten lines and 75 words plus six in the title.
 - I have some of the above situations but not all.  I do have the cane, I am hoping that this impediment to my getting around will only be temporary.  Seems I lose my crutches quite easily, so far I've lost one.

A Poem -- Do I ever win? Yes and No

[Picasso sculpture]

Nobody Loses All The Time

and
I don't keep count
The many times I've made the bed
Putting the pillows for your head
Or the few times you've lent a hand
but
Nobody loses all the time

now
I don't keep score
Who is ahead in our game
How many times I cook the meals
or wash the dishes or the clothes
Versus your mowing, paying bills
remember
Nobody loses all the time

and then
I don't, or do I, keep track
Times there are that you miss the pot
Don't ask me because there are a lot
and don't you say "I'm all you've got"
but if you do
Nobody loses all the time

What does it matter
Your passion puts you way ahead
Though I'm in love with you always

So there
We both can win
(and I'm winning right now)
(Haha haha)

- Not keeping  track but my "Mini" poem has 145 words.

An Evening Pastoral Poem -- Weekend Mini-Challenge

Evening Comes; into the 'burbs

Softly. seemingly unneeded
Porch lights turn on as by magic
Heralding evening's gaiety

Briefcases come into the homes
With windows rolled the cars get locked
Remote controls then honk their horns

The dogs go out to do their thing
Water the plants pick some flowers
Back doors are locked mothers have checked

Children play one more game of tag
Always last the fathers check in
Mothers' takeout supers are spread

Hands are washed and dogs are drooling
God is great God is good let us
thank Him for this food. Now Anen

Clouds -- a Weekend Mini Challenge Poem

Be aware clouds influence

White and fluffy sunshine filled
Calming effect makes us smile

Dark clouds roll over our heads
Lightening strikes down seers our earth
Threatening eminence brings gloom

"Cherita: “the Malay word for story or tale… consists of a single stanza of a one-line verse, followed by a two-line verse, and then finishing with a three-line verse.” ~ CHERITA [1--2--3]"
 - Magaly also wants to merge two prompts.  I used Clouds, a Natural Phenomen from Kerry Says - Let's Include Pathetic Fallacy, May 21, 2014 and then Influence (verb-have an influence on), Under an Influence; Anxiety Lost In Translation; Blocking Writer's Block- Weekend Mini!, March 19, 2016, linked to a source for these words, visible by clicking on the URL words  in Italics above.

Another Poem for a Weekend Mini-challenge

Solstice Humbug

Longest day this year
We did not burn do not fear
Needs come every year

Spring chick scratches straw
Time for her to 'fly the coup'
Scratch for worms it's own

What's the fuss about
Nothing here to be revered
Mark the calendar

A Poem for Weekend Mini-Challenge

Summer Solstice

Yesterday I walked
In the garden I walked
Roses in full bloom
Red and oh so cheery
Oranges set on fine
Golf ball sized already
Hibiscus orange
New blossoms for the day
Bunny rabbits here
Eating grass, small flowers

Yesterday I walked
Along the green belt trails
Tree placed here and there
Give shade for the walkers
The grass finely trimmed
Rabbit food over here
White cranes fish the banks
Food for their young our hope
Bridges weathered look
Turtles 'neath wait for food

Mother Nature's pride
Finished Spring Summer's come

A Random Generated Word Order poem

Student Wisdom

Unsightly things will muscular eye and
stocky month make.  Scruffy day but
a glamorous student, look magnificent. Life
with a flabby book, hand chubby stories.
Plain groups question the gorgeous cases.

 - I am linked with Magaly Guerrero in the Imaginary Garden at http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com/2019/06/weekend-mini-challenge-exquisite-corpse.html?m=1
 - For the Mini-Challenge I have used 33 words including the two for the title.  The title words were NOT in my generated list.  After reading it a few times I chose these two as a summary for the gist of the story.
 - This poem was crafted with the help of List Randomizer, a form that allows users to arrange items in random order.  Magaly supplied the list and the Randomizer rearranged  the words.  As requested, I used in order adjective, noun, verb, adjective, and noun five times from the new list for each line.

 - List Randomizer: "There were 129 items in your list. Here they are in random order:
(Adjectives):
(I used the first five)
shapely
live
unkempt

(Nouns):
(I used all five that I pulled out)

(Verbs):
(I used the first five)
vex
state
behold

(Adjectives):
(I used the first five)
elegant
attractive

(Nouns):
(I used the first five)
coffee

(Unsorted remaining words which I could
have used in order to produce more lines):
slay
fit
fact
arise
cast
beautiful
job
burst
long
dazzling
world
short
bald
quaint
time
feels
link
undulate
word
study
home
fancy
plump
place
night
skinny
drab
problem
people
year
clean

Flash Writing ~~ a short poem using 55 words

Agnes and I

I name her Agnes
When I, old and cold,
she was my bed friend,
slight, a young virgin

That was what I needed
to keep me warm
and that, I was told
for long cold winters

No objection I had,
new companion
When Dad was young
his girl was called Agnes

King David,
First Kings, 1:1 to 4*

"David
1 1-4 King David grew old. The years had caught up with him. Even though they piled blankets on him, he couldn’t keep warm. So his servants said to him, “We’re going to get a young virgin for our master the king to be at his side and look after him; she’ll get in bed with you and arouse our master the king.” So they searched the country of Israel for the most ravishing girl they could find; they found Abishag the Shunammite and brought her to the king. The girl was stunningly beautiful; she stayed at his side and looked after the king, but the king did not have sex with her.

a 'Poem' -- Ride the Reading with Homograph words -- Weekend Mini-callenge

Ride the Reading

Today I ride the Reading
It'll not be very long
when I finish reading and
have my cuppa sugared tea

Then it's fine Cuban cigar
Room for me in smoking room
and contemplate my number
for illicit cigar's fine

Sleep there dreaming while all the
time my feet become number
Oh how sorely they'll long for a
pair of soft and warm slippers

Cigar burned and feet will crash
Crash course for me, "Paying fine"

 _ _ _ _

Homograph list: [words spelled the same with different meaning(s)]
•Reading - British Rail line OR obtaining information from written words
•room - space available OR a walled division in a home or other building
•fine – of good quality OR a levy
•number – numerical value OR more numb
•long - large distance OR desire or lust after

 - Photo and Poem Copyright, Jimmiehov 2019, All Rights Reserved  (photos are PrintScreen copied from Wikipedia map of Reading, U.K. and surrounding -- click on it for a little larger view)
 - I'm linked with Magaly Guerrero in the Imaginary Garden at http://withrealtoads.blogspot.com/2019/03/weekend-mini-challenge-homographic-fun.html
 - Besides using at least one Homograph word this is The Weekend Mini-challenge time where we are to conserve word usage.  Less than 100 or exactly 55 Words are ideal for criteria here.
 - My word count is 75 including the title.  My Syllabic Form is for using entirely seven-syllable lines, fourteen of them.  It might be a Sonnet.
 - UMASS Boston English Professor and Fresh Air Music critic Lloyd Schwartz says that from the sonnet's beginnings in the13th century, there was no single form: Dante, Petrarch, Shakespeare and Spenser all wrote different types.  Schwartz says the word literally means "a little song or a little sound."

another June Bug poem for the Weekend

June Bug I found

On one of my hybrid roses
Grew a green bug, in fact many
I asked around they all knew not
What nature of beast I had found

Some suggested I boil a few
Recommended this hot oil fad
Salt and pepper roast until brown
Scarf down like maggots on a fork

Down the hatch chased with sip of Coke
When the stomach rebels fake it
Soda cracker saltines will do
Next time pull the heads don't eat them

There will be no next time for me
Trusty sprayer bid "fly away"

We cratered - Heroic couplet form

We cried together
.
We saw it coming, proverbial mile
Fate had dealt us dirty, sardonic smile
We cried together, that long fated night
Why did you shed those tears, why did we cry

And when we cratered, it all fell apart
So now we're saying goodbyes, saddened hearts
Our love has gone away, no telling where
Not meant to be, can't return, we don't care

We had some good times, but they didn't last
You can text, I'll reply, we're in the past
