One Single Impression: Miss (long for)

Originally posted on June 12, 2011

The Friend I Miss

We met there on the bridge one early morn
Admired your beauty always when I passed
Always thinking of the hard life you had
Friend my dear I miss you now very much

You've gone away I'm guessing in the morn
You were laying there lifeless on the side
Brave, you died a death you never deserved
Each time I pass I pause and wonder why

I miss the sight, you watching for a bite
Did you have a family I'll never know
No grave no flowers just a few will mourn
Count me one to ponder each time I pass

Note"
 - Every time I'd cross the bridge I would look for this grey heron. He would sit on the rail of the Hwy 1097 bridge over the north end of Lake Conroe (Texas).
 - Finally one day I was able to take his picture. He would always fly away when I slowed too much. Once I saw him dive for a fish. He didn't come back up so I am sure he went 'out to eat.'
 - The day we returned from our Midwest holiday I looked for him. Instead there was a pile of feathers and legs and bones by the side on the bridge where he liked. I hope it was a sudden death. Probably a truck sucked him off his perch.
 - I wanted the poem to be able to stand independently of the bird picture. My interpretation then would be about a 'wandering' lady I met who encountered a terrible misfortune.
 - It can be whatever the reader wishes. Possibly it might relate to an experience in his or her life.

One Single Impression: Circles

.

Circles;
ode to my top
and others

You turn around from
side to side and back and forth
You run in circles
You never get to the end
You can't even find your start

Spinning around with
wobbly axles of your turn
spinning crazily
high and low, always listing,
on the ground, up to the sky

Round and round you go
in and out you never stop
We feel for you top
This whirling's making you dizzy
Please stop your twirls just this once

One Single Impression: Change

.
Hey you

Change

There's time still, save your body and your soul
Body's rusting, the Devil has his hold

Time to change your way of living has come
Got to give up smoking and cussing now

Smoking will lead to cancer of the lung
Holes in your throat and wallet soon will come

Cussing's not the unforgivable sin
God hates it though, commandant number three

Yes, you

One Single Impression: Swoon (a Limerick)

.
Swoon;
a Limerick

Urged on by a friend to see him soon
First time meeting, she fell in a swoon
He was very froward
Rathered he'd been forward
She played his game which led to her bloom

One Single Impression: Wrinkle

.
Wrinkled

One little wrinkle would have been fine
This old man had many more than nine

Wrinkled from head to toe, back again
Where you couldn't see I imagine

His face looked tired, from stresses I know
He carried a wrinkled sack in tow

From crumpled sack he had food to eat
Beans and bread; grog to drink--made from wheat

The back of his jacket was wrinkled
from hem to collar, creases sprinkled

Folds in his pants opened like a fan
'neath every moving joint they began

His brown high laced shoes, once bright and clean,
opened, dull, grimy with shriveled seams

Nothing clean, nothing fresh, anywhere
Old man, crumpled to his underwear

One Single Impression: Wrinkle

.
Getting Old

Little Lady went to be seen
The others around watched her preen
Her doctor soon would come
Poking, snooping, no fun
Wrinkled, sixty-eight*, our Katrin

One Single Impression: D a s h

.
Sevenling
(I washed the dog today)

I washed the dog today
It's raining in Florida, bad
My old lady's down in the back

The dog was happy
The Florida people wept
The Little Lady may recover

Used  D a s h laundry soap and, saving water, now to wash my Little Lady's feet

Crazy Weak

Gone, the weak that was
Cannot be found anywhere
With e-mail erased?

Only strongest will survive

One Single Impression: Rekindle

.
Rekindle

She sits huddled in the cold
It's getting darker outside
Can she rekindle the flame
Her lover is lost, long gone

He had been the world for her
A tender hand on her waist
Melding lovers' salty lips
Spontaneous combustion

A passion fueled by their love
Embers hot and bright, crimson
But the flame died when he strayed
No longer warmed, chills abound

His return she prays to God
With pockets full of matches
Lord knows he'll never return
She sits there still in the cold

By the fire that's in her mind
