My Home - a Poem for the Sunday Muse
The Girl You See
I'm the girl you see in the window
in the window at Macy's
I've been here a hundred sixty years
Passersby stare at me
It's not me they see rather my dress
in the dress see themselves
Better for me they're seeing their love
maybe buy one for her
Early mornings quite lonesome for me
mostly men their quick glance
Take me home take me home go with you
O to be warm, cuddly
That won't happen for me never will
lonely cold Mannequin

I have never thought about the loneliness of mannequins until now. Wonderful, Jim!
150 years is a long time to watch the world go by...
I had to look, Macy's was founded in 1858, will be 165 years
old this year. I added it to my bottom notes above.

The mannequin does have a sad tale to tell. I enjoyed your take and the image you chose my friend!
Something about the idea of over a century of styles passing over an unchanging body catches the attention. How would she(?) relate to a statue that never changes? Is loneliness a function of the purpose of attracting the eye for a commercial purpose?
Well, now all I can think of is that movie Mannequin.
Interesting response to the photo prompt. Bravo for Macy's.
I shopped at one when i vacationed in NY a very long time ago, those days i used to travel abroad. Haven't left Trinidad in too long a time now.
Best Wishes for 2023. Thank you for visiting my blog.
Much❤love
I'm sure her older sister is in Harrod in London, it was founded in 1849!
Oh that mannequin who has be dressed, undressed, and redressed for all those years, and must still sit on display and never find home...I felt all of it when reading your poem
