Weekly Scribblings -- Who am I

A Trans Specie

I'm a little brownish grey butterfly with pink and yellow decorated wings and splashes of brownish pink here and there.

But I am reminded often times that some folk will say I really am a moth.  You see I show born a moth on my birth certificate though I've always been at home with the pretty butterflies.

My body is brown, rather muscular.  With my body so strong I excel in varsity sports, Whiffleball is my favorite although I am also good in Track .

There is a problem however.  The life of a butterfly is one of flitting from here to there, one flower to another, all day long.

My moth friends, most of whom I had before the change, have purpose. We were sneaking into people's houses when they opened a door or window to find the prettiest silks in their closets and have a nibble or two or three or more.

And lay our eggs in the darkest corners of the house

Or we might lie in wait until the screen door opened and then we'd bite the person coming out.

It's a tussle, I think and feel I'm a butterfly, possibly would change back to a moth.  However the doctors won't make that happen, too dangerous for the patients.

So I'll flit around some more, that's what butterflies are supposed to do.  All ventures that look so appealing really are not so, instead they're quite a bore.

As I understand it, doctors only make changes when people REALLY know where they belong, and only after very careful investigation. There was a recent program on Australian TV, featuring a wonderful woman doctor who works with trans kids, and several of the kids she has worked with, and parents. People don't instigate such extreme measures just for a whim! On the contrary, the great care taken, the need to progress at the child's own rate, consulting them all the way as to their feelings and wishes, making sure they are completely informed ... it was at once very scientific and very loving, as well as thoroughly responsible.

Sadly humans are not all that tolerant with other species large or small as for some reason we consider ourselves superior to everything else. We are in fact the destroyer though!

Yeah, I'm with Rosemary on this. Especially because I know several trans people including a young trans man who is staying with us for a bit until he can get on his feet. No doctor will help anyone undergo those procedures without a substantial time spent in therapy (usually at least a year) and trying other types of less invasive treatment (hormone therapy and the like) first. It costs almost as much money as a house to get a full change done, and insurance rarely helps out. It 100% not a whim.

Born a moth ... identify as a butterfly. Yep, right in step with gender identity and today. Jim this is one of my favorites!!!!

Intriguing--and somewhat troubling--parallels.
