NaPoWriMo 2021 Day 22 -- Earth Day

[This old Model A Ford Pickup was parked in our church parking lot one Sunday.  Don't know whose it was but I'd like to have one like it.]

Earth Day

What does that mean to you
Several years ago those words meant
Get out the old pickup,
we will pickup trash.
When we got it full
We'd drive to the dump
and then go for another load
and maybe plant a tree

These to show our
appreciation to
Mother Nature,
work to keep her pretty

Nowadays it's still plant a tree
But there is more

Like
write your congressman
sign your name to a petition
charge your PayPal
a hundred bucks
or less to
the Sierra Bunch,
get six friends to do
the same,
and then go plant the tree
and get out the old pickup
truck to pickup trash.

These to keep our home,
bodies, and planet
habitable and
looking
nice

 - I am attempting to write at least one poem a day for the National Poem Writing Month.  Today is Day 22 of the 30, you can see my progress here,

 - Write a poem using a Metonymy and I wanted to write also for the observance of "Earth Day" in my writing today.  Earth Day represents more than just a holiday.  It represents out of the ordinary  action that one doesn't ordinary do for the purpose of making and keeping our Earth the fine place it physically is.

 - Metonymy (/mɛˈtɒnəmi/)[1] is a figure of speech in which a thing or concept is referred to by the name of something closely associated with that thing or concept.[2] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metonymy

It’s wonderful that more and more people are taking Earth Day seriously – it should be every day.

A beautiful car A bit rusty. Here you see them a lot and there are a lot of classic car clubs.
Earthday has become more important as mother earth has been neglected for too long. Great message

Sadly it is not us citizens that is threatening the planet but politicians, investors, manufacturers, tree fellers and poluted oceans that are allowing the Earth to be ruined. Short term gain for all those may well see the start of the demise of the Earth as we know it.

Love this. Let's hope Save the Earth is not just a sticker on a gas guzzling bumper.
