Good fight, for ... a Tuesday Poem
Harry and Joeie
Harry and Joeie were lovers
Together they went off to war
They'd fight the battles of the world
And make what was wrong come out right
Harry and Joeie were quite sure
Sure their causes were worthy and right
And forgetting the writer's lines
Lines told Only the good die young
Harry and Joeie off at war
Valiantly they fought gave their best
And where there's war there's casualties
Bruised beaten and shot they came back
Repaired they'd never be the same
Unending war it won't be won

- I wrote this with the intent that it would NOT HAVE TO BE A WAR poem but rather a couple's battle against the tribulations of life. I didn't say this and it seems all who read it took it as a war poem, slightly anti-war which was in mind also when I wrote it.
- Mrs. Jim did have a brother who was killed in WWII, his airplane, a P38, was shot down over Italy by the Germans.

I saw this with uncles in WW2 where the recovery from their experiences was very slow indeed and never forgotten. Then there were Aunts whose husbands never came back and the effect it had on them. It is always good to remind others of the effect and tragedy of conflict.
Veey true, these brave were very much in my mind when I wrote. I've made a few changes, when I started writing I didn't necessarily want to mean a war between political entities, but also any of life's conflicts.

This is so poignant. You have truly captured the attrocities of war here.
I love the line "only the good die young" but that isn't really true. And yes, war often begets more war but there are times one must defend... it is tiring ...
War, our only true constant it seems. It is exhausting, and filled with suffering.
They gave their best and surely deserve better than they got.
Repaired they'd never be the same
Unending war it won't be won
The ravages of war will physically affect those at the front yet the war persists or may even get worse. There are no winners but all are losers!
Hank
Sad indeed.
Your words sare true.
an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind ....
and so it repeats, so it drains - ALL conflicts come with a price - of which little virtue can be extracted ...
