Aid for a Queen? ~~ a Poem for Tuesday Platform
Conjuring Up;
..was it my imagination
Today I'm conjuring up a story
I'll tell it as being true, I believe
It'll be a tale outlandish to some
But those who know me well will wonder not
You see I came upon this lady, fine
She was fine in every way, in distress
Sitting there on the curb for all to see
Weeping till dry, gin diluted with tears
Her beau had stood her up, with another
Around the corner at the Snowman's Hall
She had her gun, a short Beretta nine
No avail, pull the trigger she could not
She bawled there at my feet, she needed me
Agrieved ladies are no sport, could I cheer
Take this gun, she begged, shoot him very dead
Slow death, his legs, then his heart, hers as well
Make him crawl and cower, say you're from me
Me, the Queen of Soul and Rock, here like this
So I went around that corner to see
He was there, she was too, now crawl you two
Going to do stuff new to me with this gun
Blow by blow, shots there were, O so many
Lift a foot or it's gone, knees are has-beens
Hands behind your back, shots for you and you
Made him grovel, her as well, while they could
Take a woman's man, nothing sporty that
Code of the West tells, "dearly he should pay"
No one called the law, code says "pay with life."
'Them laying there on the floor, I went back
Back to collect my praise for job well done
Corner rounded, was this the way I came?
No one there, Queen was gone, was she ever?
Ever or never, that is my question?
Was I awake or dreaming? Sleeping now?
Did my imagination get the best?
In my cell. I may never know. They're dead.
That day I came upon this lady, fine
She was fine in every way, in distress

Chilling to me!!!
Oh what a story... to do a lady's bidding like that sounds too dangerous to me... sounds like the movie "Body Heat" in a shadier environment....

It can be quite tricky to take the rap for a lady who had a little tiff with her beau. Certainly not worth the bother to be behind bars!
Hank
Goodness, gracious! What a story! There's a moral in it, methinks.
Wow-- a chilling sort of ballad--the question of whether dream or real present for reader too. Great line breaks especially, Jim, they add to the drama! Thanks. k.
Sounds like the Wild West around these parts, Jim!
Better not to get involved in proceedings such as this Jim. Lol!
Oh my, should have walked right by that lady. Chilling piece
Classic, Jim. Love it.
Chilling, the curtain between reality and dream is oh so sheer.
Thanks for dropping in to read mine Jim
Much love...
