Lou Reed; a tribute
Songs with words I could never write.
Songs written and sung by Lou Reed.
Punk-poet of Rock'n Roll they called him. Singer of the seventies,
many called it "just noise."
But gradually they all, we all, learned a new vocabulary. That was like Lee would say,
"truly, truly a sin."
Things have changed, we have changed.
Like a lie that isn't malicious nor does it
hurt a soul,
maybe it isn't a sin?
.
Things have changed, we have changed.
Words of .s e x .and. d r u g s. are in all the songs of the 2000's now.
Our generation's 1960's and 70's were just a bit ahead of their time. But that made it what it was, a new Bible for song.
So let's all hear it for Lou Reed.
For you, Lou, we will
"Take a Ride on the Wild Side."
- - - - - -
...."Walk On The Wild Side"
Holly came from Miami, Florida
Hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A.
Plucked her eyebrows on the way
Shaved her legs and then he was a she
She says, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
She said, "Hey, honey
Take a walk on the wild side"
Candy came from out on the Island
In the back room she was everybody's darling
But she never lost her head
Even when she was giving head
She says, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
Said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
And the colored girls go
"Doo do doo do doo do do doo ..."
Little Joe never once gave it away
Everybody had to pay and pay
A hussle here and a hussle there
New York City's the place
Where they said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
I said, "Hey, Joe
Take a walk on the wild side"
Sugar Plum Fairy came and hit the streets
Looking for soul food and a place to eat
Went to the Apollo
You should've seen them go, go, go
They said, "Hey, sugar
Take a walk on the wild side"
I said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
All right, huh
Jackie is just speeding away
Thought she was James Dean for a day
Then I guess she had to crash
Valium would have helped that bash
Said, "Hey, babe
Take a walk on the wild side"
I said, "Hey, honey
Take a walk on the wild side"
And the colored girls say
"Doo do doo do doo do do doo ..."

I don't know about you Jim but these youngsters seem to pack their bags and leave us far too young. Must be the environment they work in. For all that yours was a great tribute.
Beautiful tribute. It's hard to imagine what music would be like today without the pioneers of his time.
My husband, Bill, is a musician (as well as a trucker). He even has a guitar with him on the road. Lou Reed was a pioneer, and true to himself. Unfortunately, many of these musical geniuses live fast and hard. Lou will always be remembered, though. Thanks for this.
Can't say I'm a huge fan of his, but this is a nice tribute.
A great tribute piece, Jim! You are so right, what was scandalous back in those years is considered tame fare by today's standards, and most of us turned out alright despite "the devil's music". I think some of what we hear as "music" today is just noise, but then maybe I'm getting old! :-) Thank you for sharing this for Two Shoes Tuesday!
Nice tribute Jim... love that song... Josie and you are both so correct with what was scandalous at one time is so much more tame by today's rules...if there are any....
Ya, those words were in the songs of the 60's and 70's also, but I agree this generation is alot more horrific and less censored to words that not even adults would say to each other, are now on the TV being said by kids. Yes it is sad. : )
memories of yesteryear.
I will have to check out his music. I am a fan of 80's music, what I listed to as a teen. I am not a fan of today's music. Love the old stuff
Sweet memories :)
