One Single Impression: Top

.

top

spinning top goes round and round
musical sound cannot identify that tune
when it will stop only do the children know
spinning spinning spinning round and round

spinning top slowing now ever going around
wobble here wobble there still playing its song
silly tune that save the children no one knows
spinning and wobbling along new crazy path

now clipping the ground yet spinning still
wobbling and singing more crazily yet
it will stop near to you or by me
last wobble stopped by a child
whoa
stopped
it
is
quiet

You went right for the obvious, a child toy. A wonderful spinning tale.

I was thinking of tops last week - it's been a long time since I've seen one in real life! :) Nifty poem!

I see your house is still full of those topsy turvy children. They keep one young. Tops, mops
and minature chairs,
fill the heart with youth.

You have me thinking of all the simple joys and how much peace they brought me.

Thanks.

Hi Jim, I think you've described memories and childhood toys perfectly. It is continuous music and rather annoying for adults but captivating for children. Nicely written and full of humor as always!

"it is quiet"........ they must be napping... as a caregiver for three toddlers the sweet sound of nursery rhymes and such are always in the air... except for those lovely moments when they sleep.... love that you chose such a top as this!!!!

This is very creative! I have always wanted to try to photograph a spinning top and since you managed to write a poem shaped like a top I think it is time for me to give it a try.
