Spring comes early in Texas

February one
Spring comes early in Texas
Rose's bright red bloom
Fine tuned for first day of spring
Orange red hibiscus too

Pansies die make room
Vincas ready take their place
Tulips and lilies
Young man's fancy turns to love
Flowers for girl he's courting

 - Toni's word to us, "The Japanese are all about honoring the seasons and nature... Remember: haiku must use a kigo and a kireji (a cutting word), be in the moment (sort of like a photograph) and have three lines: 5-7-5 syllable count or, short-long-short lines. Please write no more than 10 lines. In the Japanese tradition make it brief, to the point, and without a lot of flowery description. It is all about the season."  Read more about this at the link above.
 - My verses are cousins of the Haiku, a TankaTanka's start with the same syllable count, 5-7-5 and then add two more seven syllable count lines.  Most times the two additional lines will have the Kireji or be of a different vein that the other three were following.

Oh, and don't forget the blue bonnets. Those were my favorite when we lived in San Antonio!

We're yet to see any color in NYC. I bet our February is jealous of your February.
