One Single Impression: Murmur

The Children Murmur

The children are murmuring
it is the first day of school
the new teacher is real mean
we've heard she spanks with a rule

The children are murmuring
the school lunches are not good
our parents don't seem to care
if they ate them then they would

The children are murmuring
our P.E. coach makes us run
and recesses are too short
how can we have any fun

The children are murmuring
the teacher had brought a sack
she's opening it now--you think
every day might bring a snack

The children are murmuring
the bell is so very loud
we'll see how tomorrow goes
no words for our parents now

School was, at times, tough as a child, at least from a child's perspective -- great piece...

Here is my murmur...

The trials and tribulations of being a kid in school. Your poem captures it perfectly Jim. I can remember being on a stage in "the play" just as your picture depicts.

For some, school only teaches how to live for the weekend.

Reminds me of my life as a student Jim...

I was naughty then, but an achiever so more often than not, I am always spared of any punishment from teachers, I pity those classmates who would have a good reprimand and would thereafter murmur against our teacher!

I enjoyed this one Jim! Visit my murmur, too!

Oh, so true. I rather doubt things have changed much - you think? Nice poem that speaks to a childhood memory.

Hmmm...the TEACHERS are murmuring too...and it's NOT pretty! LOL! And the school lunches are still the school lunches- altho our Lunch Lady serves up a mean grilled cheese (it's to die for) and some other goodies too!
