Having Shelter Protection

 . . .

. . .

A one room apartment

has become our shelter

Though I could have had two

Rich people don't live here

Plastic key locks our door

Carry it on our wrists

Whippet hound protects us

But he is mere décor

As are two small creatures

Sitting above the hound

So our protections not

Not even in our head .

It's called Senior Living

  We are old

Ah, I bet your shelter is very cozy. I like that whippet hound keeping watch.

I love the whippet hound too. My rooms are small, too, Jim. I find them very cozy.

I see these guardians at the door, a good choice. (Thanks for the picture. ) You suggest in your final stanza that your protections don't protect, but I believe they provide a spiritual shield.

Not at all nonsensical! Downsizing may take a bit of getting used to, but it does make like easier in some ways when we get old. I am not in a one-room apartment, but in a unit with limited space. Andrew was ten and a half years older than me, so when we moved here it was more necessary for him. Now I have reached an age when it is clearly best for me.

Oops, I mean of course that it makes LIFE easier. Though it might make liking easier too, lol.

You have created a very vivid image of life for us.
But one fact is also that our flesh may get old but our spirit never does. The art of living is in not to dampen the spirit. Love for life and indifference to everything else.

Very charming guardians! My in-laws did downsize in their later years and really enjoyed themselves.

Oh Jim, your poem tugged at every heartstring I have ... or ever will have. Senior living. Yes. I live with my special needs 64 year old son, Carl ... he and I are a TEAM ... I cannot imagine it any other way, however as years continue to pass our situation no doubt will change. Carl is high function, holds down a job in a supermarket close to our home ... when I am no longer around, his siblings will take over ... whatever that looks like is up to them but I have every confidence it will work. They all love each other very much. Senior Living ~ YES. Take care.

I am glad for the both of you that your situation is working well for the both. Good too for having the loving siblings.
Mrs here is close to Anyorism but not diagnosed as such yet. She would not function correctly without my guidance, of which she doesn't deny.
