GUNS KILL ~~ a saterical poem
New Azalea Press, 2/16/2020:
It's been two years now. Nearly every gun in the U.S. has to been insured in case it shoots and kills or injures someone. If not insured, it was a goner. Or an animal except for legalized hunting. GUNS DON'T KILL but ALL GUNS ARE MADE TO KILL.
Sport shooting, IF NOT MADE TO KILL wasn't a problem. ALL GUNS FOR SPORT are now PELLET GUNS.
The insurance companies are loving this addition to their business, their profits are soaring. And the states regulate insurance companies. That way the former DO NOTHING CONGRESS is now out of the picture. 2nd Amendment too, guns are legal but must be insured.
An incredible number of lives have saved. Deaths by guns last year were down by 83 percent, murders were down by 67 percent. Family violence injuries and deaths are now down by 64 percent, deaths alone down by 92 percent. The insurance companies have done wonders in their screening efforts to withhold insurance and turn over the guns of those mentally unfit for gun ownership.
An added benefit to 'czar mr wrecking ball', he has had his blind trust buy an insurance company. While he's at it he can insure himself against all the "lying" aggressive "romance" starved women he might molest.

- Personally, I own three guns which are near antiques. One is a 1920's Montgomery Ward 22 gauge rifle, the other one that shoots bullets is a post WWII Spanish 9mm pistol for which the manufacturer has gone out of business. The other is my childhood Red Ryder BB gun that still shoot. I have never fired the first two nor have I purchased bullets for them.

There are sensible legislation that make problems disappear...
1. Register all guns and make a license compulsory including proper training.
2. Make the owner responsible for the gun. If you don't lock up your gun you are responsible for what happens.
3. Self defense is about protecting your life not your property.
Sweden has quite liberal gun laws and a lot of hunters. However you rarely see a gun outside a shooting range or in the hunting season.
Thanks Jim - you take the Swiftian approach with this modest proposal, arguing for it by demonstrating its imagined consequences, all of them wonderful proofs except for the last, the kicker, which suggests that every solution eventually marries dissolution. Wonderful contribution to the fray.
Guns don't kill people- a good argument but unfinished thought. We should leave the guns in dark cupboards and see what they do. That should be the first part of the email experiment. I'm sure some great minds will solve the mystery.
(Delete "email"...typo!)
well done, Jim
Excellent writing, Jim! Love the haiku at the end.
...but they are made to kill! Excellent point that I will borrow from now on. We need regulations and stricter sentencing NO PAROL for murderers. So sick to death of this bickering on BOTH sides of the political isle.
