One Single Impression: Cocoon

Cocoon in Use

We weave our webs with gleeful pride,
cute little nests for our old age.
When mine was done I climbed inside
and closed the door here in my cage.

Its dark in here and I can sleep.
Never again to see sun's burn?
Little do I know but down deep
I'm feeling I can not return.

I will sleep now hanging up high;
wish I believed reincarnate.
It matters not for I will die.
Be like my mom* who gave her egg?

* Mom was the butterfly who laid the egg from which he hatched as a worm. She always dies before her worm baby hatches.
Here is a cute animated illustration about the life cycle of a butterfly; and
here is a diagram showing that life cycle in a block diagram.

  1. You have expressed how a caterpillar feels being imprisoned in its cocoon...:)

    Isn't it magical?

Beautiful take Jim, this poem of yours!

Why in man, when we want to stay in our comfort zone, can we not also say, "let me sleep in my cocoon" then emerge a new and revitalized creature?

Just a rebuttal inside my mind Jim...:)

  2. this is so creative,
    and a bit intense.
I wonder what it is like for a caterpillar, do they trust that it is the perfect thing to crawl into their nest, they must.

    PS:
I have my post on my other blog http://beautyflows.blogspot.com/

  5. An interesting concept of building our own cocoon. But to die and not emerge through a metamorphosis? I like the thought of something new being reacted. Your poem and picture work so well together. Have a great day. Rob.

  8. Jim my friend, this is beautiful but sad image of our on uptight lives. The cocoon is warm and dark as if to hide our sins. We both know that He see all and thank God for this.
    Wonderful.....
