A Down Shift in Time
Caught between the eighteen wheeler
and a Ford truck with horse trailer—
he hit the gas, went down to third
and made his shift in time, superb.
Where was his hot Ferrari steed
when in his scary time of need?
He pulled that Caddy to the side
a prayer of thanks to God he said.
Now driving home, he changed his course,
he's glad to be alive no worse.
Making that down shift changed his mind
Las Vegas was a waste of time.

ReplyDeleteJim, very nice. You got me to thinking about that '67 Mustang with the 4 speed Hurst shifter I drove. Now my "need for speed" is satisfied with a Ducati.

ReplyDeleteWell, that's an experience I've had on my VW, though there was no Vegas at the other end of the road, Jim. I enjoyed that.
ReplyDeletethank you, Jim, for my Sunday morning chuckle. I've been there, done that, and know that sweet sense of relief!
ReplyDeleteLike some of the others, I too, have been in this situation, though there was no Vegas at the end, but then, it's always a gamble when we get behind the wheel. So many things happen that we don't even know about, and how many close calls do we have that never come to our attention as we roll happily along? Great job on the prompt!
ReplyDeleteI learned to drive on a stick shift but never did like it.
