Movement
Webster Unabridged
dad's old book gives us choices
movement twice defined
- - - - - - -
a scene all have seen . .
old men sitting on a bench
no movement here ....
- - - - - - - - -- - - -
she felt the wiggle
a little kick it might be
movement -- mother's womb
- - - - - - -
eighty-three jewel
engineer must be on time
rail hand WestClock watch
- - - - - - -
cuppa dark and hot
sizzling sip -- what movement here
little bug boiling
- - - - - - -
peas porridge hot and cold
eat work play sleep one day old
in the pot flush now
- - - - - - -
outdoor symphony
sit on hands -- be very still
last movement applaud
encore applause maybe stand
that's the way my momma said

The same may go for poetry? (whatever, I enjoy painting with the words!).

Old men sitting on a bench - a classic scene. Lots of reflection on age, birth and time.
ReplyDeleteLoved these. So many images. Excellent.
ReplyDeletejust feel like I've taken a railway journey with flashing vignettes of movement seen thru the window. brawly done me jim.
ReplyDeleteJim these were all very enjoyable images/movement ... But 3 and 7, my favorites. I remember the fist time I went to a symphony, it was amazing and I applauded out of term --- I was so embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the prayers for me and my family. I got a chance to see my daughter this weekend, and I felt that the prayers are being heard, she felt so much better.
Hi, back again to check out the photo you mentioned - great bunch of guys!
ReplyDeleteThese are fun. Your lighthearted wit and your gentle insight are always spot on!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, I see a lot of the non-movement mentioned in your second one, in the retirement community where I live. Sometimes I'm the motionless one, on a sunny bench. :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's good! ;)
ReplyDeleteLiked the progression. Very thoughtful verses.

These were all cleverly done...I really loved the first one! It brought back memories of our big dictionary I used to use when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteJim, these are all delightful! I love the old men sitting on a bench and the baby's kick. They sum up the movement of life, don't they?
ReplyDeleteps. I'm really glad the alligator didn't get me! But way back then I had to wait over a week to get new glasses and that meant I couldn't work, or read or write a check - or anything!
It was in the late 70's - before "glasses in an hour" - and I just knew that darn alligator was swimming around wearing my glasses and taking pictures with my camera!

it is probably not surprising to you that i really like your last one. :) i could also connect to the third one. great depictions.
ReplyDeleteA lovely and reflective post - each piece strikes a new and familiar note of life.
ReplyDeleteWow Jim, you had a lot to say on movement. And, they are all very good.
ReplyDeleteJim, I pretty much loved all of these. Really clever examination and flushing out of various definitions of "movement". It reads like a story....
ReplyDeletePS: my offering is totally open to interpretation; not sure I really know myself.
Oh, and thank you for your very kind support last week too. Your comment left me walking a little straighter. Truly.
ReplyDeleteThis is touching & catches the movement Jim..
ReplyDeleteI like the mothers womb-
Hi Jim~ I loved your poems...nice take on the word movement; I think you covered it all. Must be wonderful to live where the weather is nice all the time. Chicago- not so much but a few nice days in February- gotta love 'em! Take care~ Patti
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed all the active and quiet movements seen in your works.
ReplyDeleteI smiled as I saw the "wiggle"
What a nice array of movement poems and images!
