One Single Impression: Skin

[posted Thursday, January 8, 2009 -- postdated 'Sunday']

Skin

Skin is magical stuff to me
Bone cloak take for granted unless
scratches bruises are there to see
A small worry nevertheless

Hot wind blows it so very dry
T’will be all right for this old man
drug store’s magic fix I can try
Woman dare not leave hers to tan

A little too much wine I’ll flush
Still sway and dance with the royal
just go the merry night with blush
The next day’s sun I wake all pale

Freckles from my grandpa I got
Not a problem for me at all
I’ve lived with them they mean a lot
Though girls rue them a gift with gall

This funny skin now I reflect
Its God’s forgotten part of me
all in his glorious plan I ‘spect
I’ll gladly take it like it be

Painting is easy when you don’t know how, but very difficult when you do. Edgar Dégas
The same goes for my poetry attempts (don't know how, but I enjoy it!).

  1. You're so right, Jim. We forget our skin until it has a problem. Yet even when we're good to it, it gives us away! Be careful around the wine!

  2. That was worth waiting a week for! Enjoyed your poetic inventory of the prompt very much.

  3. This is the problem - we forget the wrapper and get to what's inside.
    Late but worth it.

  5. Dancing, wine, sunshine penned in clever poem - who could wish for more? Nicely done...

  6. Those look like your feet in the picture on the right. You had the ugly feet contest, and I remember yours.

  7. Read somewhere that our skin is the biggest organ in our body.
