Puzzle Limerick

       Another Orphan

There stood a pretty orphan tree

A growing child that could not be

Flower on its top

Growing would not stop

How could this be, child at his knee

 - This week, we were asked to to go formal: Write a limerick, a ballad or a sonnet – or to write on the subject of formality.

 - I chose the limerick with a five line syllable count of 8,8,5,5,8.  Limericks are usually written about persons, often something bad or funny.  Since this one is about a plant using the identity of a child I call it a "Bad Limerick".

  1. Unusual subject matter for a limerick – but I love it!

  3. I like this musing and rather philosophical thought, in a form usually reserved for banter! Unexpected and lovely.

  4. I like it--the plant, and the limerick.

  6. Nice verse! I like it when plants do that, I can cut the taller part off if need be!

    1. Yes, and plant the piece. Both, baby and mother were from planted foot long bare branches.

  7. Your limericks inspired me to write one, too. Here it is. Background: I respelled your son's and my names to reflect our class and intelligence. We are now Tymn and Pseuzi. Here is the limerick:

There once was a man named Tymn
Who sang a hymn at the gymn.
    So good was his voice
    That he won "People's Choice
Award" for "Best Hymn in a Gymn."
