      Tribute to a Good Friend

Sadie was a good friend of mine
So was her husband, better friend
They were parents three children
Married young, she grew tired of him

Next single, her new friends were wild
Still she was my friend, friends with both
Sadie moved to Austin, afar
I lost touch, ex kept me posted

Her newfound friends on the wild side
Sadie began drinking with them
Eating way too much with her drink
She had a heart attack and died

A different kind of funeral
The gang met at swimming hole
There they raised their beer cans to her
Ashes to the pond, cans followed

Still think lots of her and her ex
A loss of a friend who went wrong

 - I am linked with Rommy at Friday Writings #119 here,
 - Rommy has asked us to 'find inspiration “In memoriam”: write about a person, place, or thing that is gone.'  Mine is true, the lady's name here I have changed to honor the deceased but not identified by name.  Some of my readers may have known her also.

  1. A sad story, and seemingly a waste of all the possibilities in life. But I hope she found some joy before her untimely death.

  2. Sad to lose a friend...I echo what Rosemary said, hopefully the wildness gave her some happiness, briefly.

  7. My thoughts echo Rosemary's too in that Sadie experienced joy in her new life. Sorry for your loss.

  8. That's the best kind of funeral. Sadie could be any of us.

  10. We make our life and live with the consequences. It's hard on the ones who are collateral damage though.

  11. Well, it's a path she chose and perhaps she found joy in that. And she had a good friend in you. Still sad to hear of her demise.

  12. Sad. A common story as far as marrying young, before one really even knows what one wants. She missed out on the wild days, apparently tried to bring back that youth.

  13. Sad but it was Sadie's choice how she wanted to live and die. She must be hankering after something unachievable. Hence opted for a way of life which could easily be grabbed - a life which filled the gaps between reality and dream. Just my thoughts. May be wrong.
