Friday Writings - Not really 'dear'

Goodbye 'Dear' Friend,

Goodbye Mr. 2021
You've been a good old stinky devil
More irritating than one before
She was so calm, a sneaky old b**ch

She lulled us with the COVID-19
Putting some to sleep tight, right away
A dreamy sleep they'd never awake
Three funerals our kin, almost four

You were more forthright  with your business
Mean, mean, with the COVID but we knew
Knew where we stood, masked faces, washed hands
Stayed inside, vaccinated, distanced

Other problems too, those we fault you
Economies gone bad for us poor
Riches got richer again they always do
Pollution, crowding, crime, Climate Change

Now you're leaving us,  a bigger mess
So we're glad you're leaving, we won't cry

Writing for behaving citizens,
Adios, Bon Voyage, don't come back

  1. Interesting differences between the two years, which I think you have understood and described very well. Love your final line.

  2. Seriously... let's hope 2022 is nothing like them. Cheers!

  3. I wouldn't have wished 2020 away so fast if I knew what was coming in 2021.

  4. I'm right there with you, Jim. Undearest 2021 won't be missed. I'm hoping 2022 will be a much better host, but with Omicron sneering at us who knows... Let's keep our fingers crossed, our hands washed, and our faces masked for a little longer.

  5. I am growing weary of it all .. 2020, 2021 … 2022 just has to be better. Sending Holiday Greetings your way, Jim.

  6. Ugh, yes, I'm getting sick (thankfully not literally) of it all. Here's hoping 2022 at least won't be worse for the world than 2021 has been.

  7. Very well written the truth Jim and I hope also that 2022 will get better for us all, but I am also very afraid that it might get even worse. It's getting to be a weird world. But I wish you, your friends and family nice days. I've added this blog to my reading list too. I come in next year again online. But for me is it now me-time. Greetings from the Netherlands

  8. You do not seem to be too fond of Mr. 2021, Jim. Yes, the previous year was sneaky, and pretty devastating.
Let's hope 2022 will be a better year. No doubt, it will still have to grapple with climate change, crime, bigotry and politicians, but let's hope it will do a better job. :)

Wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
