Candle in the Jar
I'm a little candle here in your jar
Don't let anyone put the lid on me
For if that happens my light will go out
Let not that one be you, my light will die
Precarious perch, tender little fire
The edge of the sand one wave away
Not a note in the bottle is the flame
Distance does not remove lids, fire pales
And if you've not protected me, the same
Our lives would be so dull without that flame

Quite lovely ~~~~~
ReplyDeleteWe kept that small flame alive for four excruciating years - so wonderful, such a relief to know we wont have to white-knuckle the next four years. Whew!
ReplyDeleteCalm and the voice of reason restored! Hallelujah Yes, our lives would be dull without that light we all hold close.
ReplyDeleteA glorious light it is! Beautiful words here Jim!
ReplyDeleteKeep the flame alive!
ReplyDeleteOur lives would be so dull
ReplyDeletewithout that flame
To survive it is necessary for the catalyst to work its wonders. Very true Dr Jim!

Oh...this is enchanting. That change of flame for note is captivating.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, Jim, you've written a little gem here! Tim Buckley once sang "Dontcha hold me down and kill the man you love". This poem made me think of that, though your poem has much more of a sense of mutuality. Love it.
ReplyDeleteYes, may we keep one another's candles glowing.
ReplyDeleteSweet poem - let people, things just be.
