Going on Five?
  new sheriff in town?

The saying "a cat has nine lives"
Well it goes for us buildings too
My parent's premonition worked
I'm going on my number five

Giving to that maxim's first They
Aptly named Aztec Cat House One
Where clients and kittens abound
Good ten years--Sheriff shut me down

Sheriff was PO'd nothing's free
He bought me cheap, measly ten dimes
and opened a first class hotel
Aztec Two my parents would weep

Wealthy guests and tourists did come
Breakfasts free new tradition's start
Cheapskates all, chance to save a buck
Spend hundreds dancing all the night

Sheriff sold booze by the gallon
Underground basement Casino
Fifth floor pleasure, kittens return
Evils galore named Aztec Four

Attention getting all for free
Argue "The sign said Aztec Three"
It has survived until this day
Riverwalk haunt famed 'Den of Sin'

 - Notes:
1)  The 1926 Aztec 3 building is now holding theater productions. It is located on the Riverwalk in the old down town San Antonio.
2)  Everything in the words of this poem is Fiction goaded by my Muse.
3)  Mom's cat house was on our family farm, there she kept about 30 feral cats. https://jimmiehov.blogspot.com/2006/08/old-buildings-on-our-farm-moms-cat.html?m=1
4)  I am open to a different title for this piece.
Suggestions??

  1. I love the comparison of cats many lives and architecture. The info of the Aztec at the end is a great touch! Great writing Jim!

  4. I'm glad your mom looked after the feral cats who otherwise would have had a much harder life. I love going to movies but only get the chance about once a year now........movies look so awesome on the big screen.

  5. I had trouble separating fact from fiction in your history of the Aztec. It sounded such a wonderful bit of history to me, and now you say it was called the Den of Sin! Say it isn't so!

  6. "Where clients and kittens abound " - Oh yes, been there too. I think on Colfax in Denver it was called "Kitty's", LOL!

  7. That was almost a social history, Jim. Nice one.

  8. Love the idea of the nine lives of buildings and am terrified by the idea of a feral cat shed. And sort of fascinated...

  9. Fascinating background here....you describe the longevity of the building aptly.

  10. If a building has nine lives, imagine the tales it could tell. I wonder what caused the demise of each?

  11. What a neat take on the restoration and a cat's nine lives. You've made some fun here.
