The Street Painter;
and the snappy woman
His pictures were beautiful though
who but a tourist would buy one
And so many were mural size
Best to get it home just ship it
Comes little lady in her 'shaw
She's too good to put her foot down
The pavement was germy dirty
Besides Rick the driver had gone
What are ye painting she shouted
Looks a bloody mess upside down
I like your colors what's it's price
Sounded like a put down to him
With a sly grin he shouted back
It ain't for sale Grandma wants it
Oh sure where does your grandma live
She's in Heaven all good girls go
Why do you paint here in the grime
The street gives me inspiration
I live here 'neath yon bridge. Homey.
Water sloshing gives me patience

- - Riding with the pedaling fellow in this bike mobile cab looks like it would be fun but he didn't have many takers. Mrs. Jim and I did ride in one of these in China and the ride was not fun.
- - The street painter was going to donate his painting to a local Salvation Army unit. There were a lot of people in his painting but I couldn't figure out what he meant it to be.
What a fascinating and entertaining experience.
ReplyDeleteWell you have to admit he hasn't left much pavement for pedestrians has he? I wonder whether he got the city's permission?
ReplyDeleteLove this little encounter between the artist and the would-be buyer!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if grandma is enjoying the piece.
ReplyDeleteLove the reality in your poem today ... I can see it, hear it.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautifully rendered!
ReplyDeleteHmm, grandma is where nice girls go, interesting response
ReplyDeleteHappy Wednesday Jim
Much💙🌎💚love
I like the sidewalk art that appears to open the sidewalk into all sorts of fantasies! Granny and the artist seemed to have a rather confrontational encounter!
ReplyDeletethe Grandma line got me chuckling. so true for my own.
ReplyDeleteLove this...especially your ending!
ReplyDeleteI like this Jim. The vivid language gives an authentic feel to me actually being on that street. BTW, one of my friends often photographs murals wherever he travels plus ones where he lives. Fascinating. - Gel
ReplyDeleteWow Jim! You really captured the flavor of the street and the differences in people. Great poem.
