Flasback Poem -- A Family Tale
My last grandchild;
memories of her birth
I remember well that
warm day in July.
Our youngest daughter was
about to have our
youngest granddaughter
She'd been up all the night
doing work work on
her laptop and on
her phone meeting with
bosses in London
She wasn't planning to
be in there, in the
hospital at all
but she had to meet
with her gynacol-
ogist on her way
to work that morning
After a short exam
his word to her was
"Go home pack your bag and
get to the hospital.
I'll see you there this
afternoon and by
the morrow you'll have
a kid to take home."
But I can't go as I
have work work to do
very important
Well bring your stuff and
work there from your bed
Work she did in between
inducing labor
and the kid's coming
Wonder Woman they named
Kind they'd never met
My new granddaughter's now
ten and volunteers
to help wherever
she might be needed
As her mother does

- Notes:
(1) Brudberg wants a Memory Flashback, prose or poem, 369 word limit for prose. And true or fiction. Mine is a 162 word, plus a seven word title, a true reminiscing episode of my life.
(2) My family is five kids, six grandkids, four great grandkids, and one great-greatgrandkid. All but one, the oldest grandson, live near us in the greater Houston (Texas) area. And all but one in the marrying age are married.
(3) The picture above is of three generations, the two mentioned and Grandmother Mrs. Jim.
Wonder woman indeed! And an unexpected delivery of a most wonderful girl... who is just like her mother. A fabulous matrilineage.
ReplyDeleteOh what an ambitious woman... I always admire those who manage to work all the way to a deadline.
ReplyDeleteYou are surrounded by wonderful women.
