Gormless Corky;
neighborhood kid
There was a young lad who was slow of wit
His name was Corky, a sweet young fellow
The other children were his living dread
They chided the poor boy mercilessly
Called him names, made ugly faces and signs
The teachers loved him, gave special effort
That made it worse for Corky with other kids
They called him teacher's pet right to his face
Another name they learned, it was "gormless"
Cruel to mouth, meant stupid, dull, or clumsy
Corky's alright now, terminal illness
Took its toll and Angels watch over him

A pity it had to end that way. sometimes one may face untold problems to no end! Very true Dr Jim!

Oh my. So sad that Corky was never treated with respect and kindness. I know about that all too well.
ReplyDeleteOh, man. Didn't everyone know a kid (or several) who went through the world with this kind of hassle? Terrible.
ReplyDeleteI think there was a kid like that in every class.. and if there wasn't you can always pretend that he is... and being teacher's pet makes it worse.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness, this tugs at my heart. I was once the fat girl who always got picked last.
ReplyDeleteOh! That ending hurt.
ReplyDeleteOh, this pulled at my heart strings.
ReplyDeleteIt's a terrible thing, when death (especially of the young) seems to be the only path to freedom.
