Little Grey Squirrel, Stopped
Little grey Squirrel, stopped on my back porch
He wants to see what he can see from there
Was a brown dog out back, ready to bark
I know he'd like to chase me up his tree
Where's the calico kitten's milk today
She always shares her milk with me, my
friend

Today I am liked with Fireblossom at the Real Toads, Flash Fiction 55 (Link)
She said this for instructions: "...write a poem or a piece of flash fiction in exactly fifty-five words, no more, no less. Any subject; children, shoes, nervous breakdowns, whatever..."

I enjoy delving into the mind of creatures...nicely captured, Jim.
ReplyDeleteLove squirrels - such nice company in the garden..
ReplyDeleteI would love to see a squirrel on my back porch - no such luck in my part of the world. I'm more likely to find a hyrax.
ReplyDeleteI was given a squirrel tail by a former classmate when I was around ten-year old, Dr & Mrs Jim :)
ReplyDeleteThat's absolutely adorable! :-)

Gentle. I've not thought of squirrels this way. But I will try to be more empathetic.
ReplyDeletewe have a lot of squirrels around my house Jim!! we use to regularly put out food and water for themm... a time came when they were not even scared to come close but soon a stray tabby learned there new eating place and started eating them up .. i saw him gulping down one leaving behind only a tail... since weve stopped keeping food for them... theyre still around and feed from tree nuts and all but not so many any more!! :(

ReplyDeleteGreat picture and well worked words.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting. I could not see your other sight but maybe later.
I am a collector. I use some pieces in art and some just for looking. I can't imagine not picking up an old piece of something when I see it. It's a bad habit I enjoy.
A sweet tale that I wanted to illustrate and read aloud to children!

ReplyDeletenice snapshot, Jim. i'd like to be at war with our squirrels over the birdfeeder, but they're so damn cute and attentive. hard to be annoyed with them. :)

ReplyDeleteI was so enthralled with the black squirrels in Northern Michigan… Do squirrels really drink milk? ha…
