SOLASTALGIA
. . . SOLASTALGIA .
Oh how I miss my freedom .
I reminisce days gone by .
My freedom to roam the hills .
Pikes Peak drive the racer car ...
Other places too, "just go" .
I'm here with my wife, one room .
One room apartment for us .
"Senior Living" it is called ...
No more cooking, we are old .
Breakfast is seven to nine .
Noon lunch will be eleven .
Eleven to one is right .
Sign the book if we go out .
I miss my four bedroom house .
Lock the door and drive away .
But we are "taken care" of .
We can though call our daughter,
Or other child, they might take
. . .

Hi, Jim, life does get very basic once we're older. But at least we're still here. Smiles. It's always nice to see our kids once in a while. You look very happy in that racing car! Oh, the memories!
Might be "fixed"
You are making me sad but try to make the best of it... a lot are doing it tougher. Lovely photo of you in the fancy car. CHin up !
I smiled at you in your racer car. That must have been fun to drive. Hopefully, you are adjusting to this new way of life.
New adjustment at this age is difficult but it's good to be "taken care of".

Odd that I miss my house, too, but feel freer in other ways since moving into senior housing. I have 2 tiny rooms, but I don't have to cook or wash dishes or wash the sheets and towels or vacuum. I like the company--meals are my favorite activities! And I feel safe. I hope eventually to feel more motivated to get out to museums, etc, though with a rollator now, it is harder to get around. In fact, your poem challenges me to try harder to keep my life activities going. Thank you.
Must have been hard to give up your house, and that car
