The Last Ride ~~ a Sad Day for Adi

Today is World Suicide Prevention Day

(That was September 10, 2018.  The link at the bottom here still is valid,  probably updated by the time you read this.)

Her Last Ride

It would be her last ride
One of many she'd been before

Going to her doctor
It wasn't her favorite ride

Getting old is not fun
Seizures were her worst, eating next

Wasn't her idea
Going that day not a fun ride

Being with her lover
That made it some better for her

No more fun days she'd have
For her, assisted suicide

But I've been thinking how
It's Doggie Heaven she is in

Adi Jane was my constant companion.  She and I were a registered Pet Therapy Team and made many, many visits together, adding pleasure to kids and shut-ins.
Adi died September 17, 2012 ............ (read my tribute to her here)

  3. She obviously deserves a Doggie Heaven! I am sad for you ... and also glad you had that beautiful companionship from such a very good dog.

  4. It is heartbreaking taking a loved pet to the vet for the last time. There have been a few best mates for me to take for that last ride too.

  5. Such a sweet-faced girl. She earned her rest for all the comfort she brought to others.

  8. Such a cute little hound...I'm sure children looked forward to her visits.

Reminds me of how on "Dukes of Hazzard" the characters would debunk horror stories kids had heard about "huge fierce bloodhounds" by showing the footage of the purebred bloodhound, who would whine to be rubbed behind the ears and let out a totally non-threatening "Woof!" They must've spliced her in a hundred times but kids I knew watched for her views as the show went into reruns.

  9. I'm so sorry you've lost your dear friend. It's never easy to say good-bye even when it's the right thing to do.
