Orange color in the fruit -- a Poem for the Mini Challenge
Orange colored fruits;
oranges and pumpkins;
for food and drinking
Orange color favored by harvest teams
Hue of ripening pumpkins of the North
South's tasty namesake Oranges spout forth
Their juices slightly acrid sugar sweet
Both fruits eaten soon, each fall's yummy treat
Orange gems, sip one, other rates a fork
Said orange colored drink we'll pull the cork
Tasty orange pumpkim pie lightly browned
Hunger, mouths water while watching the cook
Delight, taste buds satisfied bellies stuffed
Gratified, drinks, 7up and OJ
Glee, youngsters shout, light the candles they took
Happy, Monster's face shone and children roughed
Content, bedded young doze while elders play

The photo is of an orange off our backyard tree (it's photo). I had always thought it was a lemon tree but picking the bright orange fruit I could tell it was not a lemon. It did suffer damage, I may taste it but Mrs. Jim said she wouldn't eat it.

orange - the new red perhaps. really like the ending...
ReplyDeleteThe colour orange always a favorite with children (it certainly was with me) but how I melded in with the parents relaxing after the kids went to be bed. Delightful read Jim.
ReplyDeleteThe different aspect of colour orange!!
ReplyDeleteSo many lovely versions of ornage!!
ReplyDeleteI like the citrus zippiness of your sonnet, Jim and the way it begins with a senryu. There's so much delicious appeal to the senses. Orange is associated with fruit so its nice to see pumpkins mentioned too - I like their kind of orange!
ReplyDeleteYour harvest poem made me hungry... pumpkins light up the fall.
ReplyDeleteOne thing i love about fall is all the orange hues, in leaves, in fields of pumpkins, crunching underfoot........nice one, Jim.
ReplyDeleteThis orange you weave is delicious! 😍😍
ReplyDeleteSome mouth-watering references here -- love this orange-filled delight.
ReplyDelete-HA
Jim, I cannot get the image of those orange slice candies we used to eat and pretend they were teeth out of my mind!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful sonnet Jim! And even though you think it isn't as "deep or meaningful" I dare say, "wrong." You've embraced the colour orange - and nothing rhymes with orange - and presented several delightful and delicious aspects of it -
ReplyDeleteI like how you've played with the "north and south" - touching on the differences in the harvest seasons, how one colour can embody different pleasures and taste sensations - I particularly like the way you've worded it about the oranges - and you've offered us a vignette - scenes and memories that are both, perhaps, personal and yet mostly universal. So yes, I do think your sonnet - your tribute to orange is lovely - and interesting, and is absolutely a treat for mind and heart :)
The season of orange is the perfect backdrop to write from. All those little sun spots dot our view before winter comes in its cloak of gray.
ReplyDeleteHow clever! I would never have thought of oranges with the fall season.
